Mumbai Global Legal Office Site Lead


The MGLO site head role is a senior management-level position responsible for management of Mumbai Global Legal Office (MGLO) and extending adequate information support to send countries for outsourced (product legal and legal solutions) work to MGLO. The overall objective of this role is to provide managerial and leadership support, advice and guidance to the team members at MGLO, stakeholder management and be responsible for seamless communication between Mumbai site and MGLO as well as outsourcing/send countries.

The individual in this position will continue to report to their existing manager with a matrix line into the Head of Global Legal Solutions (GLS) for purposes of consistent management and delivery across all Global Legal Offices (GLOs).

As with all GLO site lead roles, this is a 2-3 year assignment.


Through partnership with colleagues across the Legal department and Citi, this individual will provide day-to-day governance and operations management support to MGLO. This includes:

+ Manage, lead and extend necessary support for growth of the team members at MGLO comprising of, regional product lawyers and non-lawyers and serve as a culture carrier and provide mentoring and coaching to team members

+ Facilitate opportunities for employee engagement, talent development, mobility, and career-path development including nomination for prestigious trainings

+ Enable recruiting processes by participating in necessary review committees, providing hiring / interviewing support, obtaining local referrals, monitoring market trends and competition, building partnerships with relevant local professional organizations, law schools, and law firms etc.

+ Ensure availability and delivery of common and ongoing trainings and events

+ Partner, engage and assist, HR and regional managers in evaluating employee performance and providing recommendations for compensation planning, promotions, terminations, nomination for prestigious trainings, etc.;

+ Coordinate with appropriate site infrastructure teams (CSC leadership, real estate, technology, security etc.) to ensure seamless operations at MGLO including periodical engagement with senior members on hiring projections and accordingly, assessing and providing timely updates on real estate demands for MGLO to Mumbai site management team

+ Act as senior representative of MGLO in Mumbai CSC and other senior regional or global forums

+ Adopt solution oriented approach and manage stakeholders at Mumbai CSC and outsourcing countries

+ Partner with teams such as ICRM and CoB and assist them in ensuring MGLO team members completion of compliance trainings, compliance with various policies including continuity of business, etc.

+ Collate, finalize and ensure timely submission of periodical reporting to the Mumbai site governance and other management teams

+ Assist send countries with information requests and other local governance requirements in order to outsource work to MGLO or make material edits to the existing outsourcing arrangements

+ Responsible for the overall management of the legal associate and training program including hiring, finalization rotation planner, final placement of associates in different teams and mentoring the associates

+ Engage and collaborate with other global legal offices like Belfast, Dublin and Tampa to exchange and implement best practices on team management and provide thought leadership to drive integration and management consistency across all global legal offices

+ Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to policies, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards

+ Qualifications

+ 10+ years of experience

+ Proven analytical, organizational, leadership and managerial skills

+ Solution oriented and stakeholder management

+ Consistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication

+ Excellent interpersonal skills, executive level presentation experience, creativity, willingness to take initiative and work collaboratively, and the ability to handle highly sensitive information with the appropriate care and discretion.

+ Must have experience managing a group

+ Fluency in English
