+ Provides clinical nutrition program leadership on trends and developments in medical nutrition therapy; interpreting state, federal and Joint Commission regulatory standards; developing standards of practice and measures of effectiveness; developing/updating medical nutrition therapy policies and procedures; and making recommendations for continuing education based on department needs Develops short-term goals for clinical nutrition which align with organizational goals, mission, values and strategies. Provides input in the development of long-term goals for the function and the organization.

+ Develops and monitors the departmental budget and strategic plan in cooperation with director. Leads the design and implementation of department services and programs that are value-added, cost-effective and data-driven.

+ Nurtures the multidisciplinary/integrated approach to patient care. Acts as a liaison between the department, medical staff and other ancillary services. Serves as a resource to the team in the provision of patient care services.

+ Evaluates new and existing programs/services which involve the clinical nutrition section. Coordinates nutritional aspect of such programs/services.

+ Remains informed of research and advancements in the filed of nutrition and technological advancements, federal regulations and hospital strategic plans which impact the provision of nutritional care. Maintains clinical skills through the practice of staff relief as needed. Remains up to date on advances in nutrition and diet therapy through continuing education to possess most up-to-date knowledge of meet clients' needs.

+ Recruits, interviews, promotes, disciplines, and terminates staff. Sets performance standards, goals for direct reports and the department. Evaluates and counsels staff on their performance. Monitors workload statistics to ensure appropriate staffing levels. Provides for the education needs of the staff.

+ Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

+ Performs other duties as assigned.


+ Bachelor's degree in Dietetics or related field


+ Five years experience in nutrition and/or dietetics field, with two years' in leadership


+ Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.

+ Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.

+ Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.

+ Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.

+ Frequent keyboard use/data entry.

+ Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.

+ Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.

+ Rare climbing.
