Summary:

Experienced engineer position where you will perform/supervise metallography testing on parts and materials by applying standard mathematical, physical science, and/or engineering technologies. Completes assignments with detailed instructions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the execution and supervision of acceptance testing while under the technical guidance of higher level engineers or departmental management
  • Participates in establishing testing procedures for new parts and materials
  • Assists in the development of test procedures and performance of routine to moderately complex engineering evaluation tests, product and process capability studies, quality audits, product or project data reviews, and other engineering evaluation work
  • Evaluates opportunities for defect prevention based on standard or accepted solutions.
  • Prepares evaluation reports, analyzes discrepancies, and makes recommendations for product, test equipment, procedures and manufacturing or operating processes that improve productivity and quality and reduce flowtime
  • Assists in the review of product or material definitions, manufacturing drawings and specifications, and test equipment designs
  • Defines and acquires tooling, gauging and other equipment necessary to test parts/materials and to assure product quality
  • Interacts with design agencies, suppliers and/or internal organizations to assist in resolving design, development, production and acceptance testing issues
  • Provides technical assistance to lab technicians and supported engineering teams
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding technological advances that improve productivity and quality, reduce flowtime, and enhance operational surety

    You Must Have:

    • US citizenship to obtain and maintain US Dept of Energy \"\"Q\"\" level security clearance.
    • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Materials Science, Physics (or an equivalent engineering degree) from an ABET accredited engineering program.
    • Seven (7) or more years of directly applied experience in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or technical activity such as manufacturing, maintenance, metallography testing or inspection.

      • Metallography/Materials Science experience
      • Experience in quality acceptance & ISO-defined quality systems with emphasis on public domain processes including
      • ASTM, ISO, Mil-Stds & other commercial quality documentation
      • Experience testing materials and parts €“ plating thickness, over-plating, Rockwell and Brinell hardness testing, microhardness testing, weld analysis, cross sectioning, grain size measurement, grain flow, grain structure, plating adhesion, etc
