The UWMC-Montlake Men's Health Center  has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time MEDICAL ASSISTANT LEAD. The Medical Assistant (MA) Lead functions as a competent MA to assist health care professionals in the examination and treatment of ambulatory patients, including: preparing the patient and the environment for treatment, meeting the communication needs of patients and family, conducting basic diagnostic tests, providing patient care coordination, patient education and clerical/reception functions.  The MA Lead communicates with physicians and team members about patients clinical condition, including results of diagnostic tests and symptomatology.  As a member of the health care team, the MA Lead helps to create a culture of professional excellence and helps to maintain an environment that respects cultural, economic, ethnic and lifestyle differences of patients and staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the work of Medical Assistants and others
  • Schedules and assigns Medical Assistants and others to ensure appropriate staffing
  • Trains Medical Assistants and others; serve as a resource to other clinical staff, maintain training and orientation material for Medical Assistants and others
  • Participates in interviewing applicants and training and orienting new employees; provide information to supervisor for hiring decisions and employee performance evaluations
  • Monitors and manages the flow of patients in the clinic throughout the day
  • Demonstrates the ability to be organized and effectively prioritizes work tasks for the needs of the clinic
  • Performs direct patient care procedures according to their level of education, certification and clinic protocol
  • Provides skilled assistance to providers performing patient care procedures in the clinic
  • Maintains sterile technique during treatments and special procedures as indicated
  • Provides accurate, appropriate, and culturally sensitive education to clinic patients
  • Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's age
  • Assists in the following procedures: vasectomies, scrotal ultrasounds, prostate ultrasounds, biopsies, cystograms, TESA/TESE, fine needle aspirations, testopel insertions
  • Maintains infection control standards including hand hygiene and appropriate use of personal protective attire
  • Responds appropriately to patients in physical distress or emergency situations
  • Assists providers and clinic RNs in the maintenance of clinic processes to ensure timely follow-up on reported test results
  • Assists with coordination of care including clarifying patient follow-up and scheduling patients appointments
  • Accurately and thoroughly documents provision of patient care in a timely manner
  • Maintains, completes and submits required clinic reports and audits in a timely manner
  • May perform clerical coverage duties if needed by the clinic
  • Answers telephone calls in a professional manner and directs calls appropriately
  • Responds to patient issues and refers issues as appropriate
  • Demonstrates understanding of billing practices

    REQUIREMENTS:
    Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the  Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board AND one year experience as a Medical Assistant;
    OR
    High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience as a Medical Assistant providing direct patient care in a health care setting AND eligible for State of Washington certification designation as Medical Assistant Certified ;
    OR
    equivalent education/experience.

    DESIRED:
    Direct patient care in ambulatory care, men's health, preferred.
    Effective organizational and interpersonal skills.
    Stable work history, including excellent attendance.
