MECHANICAL ENGINEER (STARLINK)

Starlink is Spacex€™s ambitious program to bring high quality internet to the globe by building a constellation of thousands of satellites in low earth orbit (LEO) which we launched on our Falcon 9 reusable rockets earlier this year. We are developing millions of devices for end users to link our customers to our satellites. As a mechanical engineer, you will spearhead the design of numerous structures, assembles and components. You will own hardware from cradle to grave and will interact regularly with senior leadership during critical design phases.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and certify mechanical systems that meet customer and SpaceX requirements.
  • Utilize the full spectrum of the design, analysis, test, and manufacturing tools to create efficient structures and components.
  • Own product delivery timeline through conception, design, assembly and launch.
  • Develop test plans for parts through development, qualification and acceptance testing.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline. 
  • Experience with CAD and FEA software packages.
  • 1+ years of experience with mechanical/electromechanical design and analysis (internship experience qualifies). 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master€™s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in mechanical design and analysis. 
  • 2+ years of hands-on project experience with complex mechanical systems, preferably as a lead.
  • Solid understanding and application of GD&T.
  • Demonstrated understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical systems.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work long hours and weekends as necessary.

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
