We have an outstanding opportunity for a Marketing & Outreach Specialist.

The Marketing & Outreach Specialist writes, edits and designs digital and print communications and marketing materials for UW Transportation Services. Topics range from major transportation initiatives and process changes on campus, promotion of transportation programs and products, campus-wide transportation & sustainability performance, and transportation events/impacts that affect the entire campus community and visitors. This employee also helps develop and execute communication and outreach strategy, plan campus-wide events, and develop communication/presentations to support relationships with external partners and stakeholders.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Transportation Services, the Marketing & Outreach Specialist plays a creative and leadership role in promoting to and educating the campus-wide community and visitors, as well as internal and external stakeholders, on Transportation Services programs, products, services and news. Works closely with the UW Facilities Communications team and interacts directly with external agencies and organizations regarding transportation to/from and on the University campus.

This position requires project management and polished writing skills, graphic design experience, and the ability to communicate with people of different cultures and ethnic backgrounds.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Content Development


Research, write and edit content to explain and promote the work of UW Transportation Services.
Produce marketing and promotional material used for campus-wide initiatives.
Write and edit executive/leadership-level communications for Transportation Services
Manage social media accounts and write and edit content for web pages.
Design graphics for use in signs, print and digital media displayed campus-wide.
Help manage operational communications to customers, including notification of service interruptions/impacts and policy changes.
Ensure consistent tone and messaging that is in alignment with University standards, vision and values.
Respond to data and communication requests from external stakeholders, peer universities, news outlets and researchers.

Communication & Outreach Strategy Development/Execution

Lead collaboration with Transportation Services teams and UW Facilities Communications to develop and execute communications, outreach and marketing plans.
Lead planning and execution for assigned projects, providing ongoing status updates and proactively solving challenges as they arise.
Develop and participate in the measurement and evaluation of the impact of communication and outreach efforts on Transportation Services programs/products, using customer feedback and data.
Liaison with campus partners to ensure UW Transportation Services is present at all relevant campus events.
Develop and implement events on behalf of UW Transportation Services.

Program/Project Management

Develop and support special projects to promote department initiatives with University leadership, internal/external stakeholders and the community.
Effectively manage multiple medium to large projects at any given time, including workgroup initiatives, pilot programming, and cross-functional initiatives that actively support the departments values, mission, and vision.
Set goals, establish timelines, manage resources, establish roles and allocate work, monitor/measure progress, take remedial action or celebrate project/team successes as appropriate.
Monitor and report on program performance and results.
Lead and oversee project work of departmental teams and staff related to communications, outreach or marketing.

Teamwork and University Engagement

Positively promote the organization by demonstrating a high level of professionalism and support for organizational values and expectations.
Represent Transportation Services in daily business, at University meetings, and at meetings or conferences with the public.
Interact with clients, faculty, staff, governmental agencies, vendors, and the public regarding policies and procedures for Transportation Services programs and assigned projects.
May serve on various committees within the University and related organizations.
Stay abreast of industry trends and practices.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements include:

Bachelors degree.
Four years of directly related experience.
Ability to communicate successfully with stakeholders at all levels throughout a complex, diverse organization.
Proficient with oral and written communication including developing electronic and written materials, report writing, editing, layout and design.
Demonstrated customer service skills and outreach experience.
Excellent organizational skills; ability to work independently and successfully coordinate multiple tasks within project priorities; demonstrated flexibility to meet changing/unpredictable needs.
Excellent problem-solving skills; ability to analyze complex information, and to define and solve problems; ability to function effectively within a complex regulatory environment; ability to develop and interpret policies and procedures.
Demonstrated proficiency with standard productivity software include Microsoft Office.
Demonstrated cultural competency through customer service and team interaction.
Experience with social media.
Experience with outreach/event management

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Desired:

Possession of a valid Washington State drivers license.
Masters Degree
Experience working in the public or higher education sectors; experience in the transportation industry.
Multilingual (Spanish, Japanese, Cantonese, Korean, Amharic, Tigrinya, Tagalog, and Russian preferred).

Conditions of Employment:

May be required to move / lift up to 40 lbs.
Work may be required during hours beyond standard business hours or regularly scheduled shift, including weekends; professional travel may be required.
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment; however, work may include incidental outdoor or fieldwork with exposure to the elements and variable weather conditions.
This position will be eligible to work remotely and onsite on a hybrid basis with supervisor approval.
Must be able to work in a non-smoking environment.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
