Position description
The Marketing Manager will take an active leadership role across Mayo Clinic to understand business objectives, and will build marketing strategies and plans to support those objectives. The Marketing Manager is responsible for achieving results in line with business objectives. Will include the strategic evaluation and execution of marketing activities, which may include advertising, collateral development, digital marketing, content creation/assessment, and event management. The individual will drive, implement, monitor, and measure results of marketing activities to advance Mayo Clinic’s mission, strategic plan and business objectives. The Marketing Manager will provide expert strategic marketing consultation and guidance to various clients, and will lead through influence without direct reporting relationships. Manages complex and cross-functional projects through entire project life cycle, from project concept through launch, to achieve objectives, and measures results against business needs. Serves as a role model for others and represents Mayo Clinic internally and externally. Evaluates, analyzes, and develops marketing strategies based on target audiences, market research, and business plans, and continually assesses consumer and business needs, to ensure marketing plan alignment. Deep understanding of target audience needs and an advocate for developing products and services in line with those audience needs. Responsible for market intelligence through identification and analysis of internal and external data relevant to the market as well as a thorough assessment of the "competitive" environment associated with a project, synthesizing findings and developing strategies to appropriately position Mayo Clinic. Conveys confidence, clarity and transparency in communications with stakeholders and leaders, and represents marketing on key institutional committees. Proactively contributes to business planning, marketing planning, and strategy development. Leads teams and provides leadership to others, including contractors and third parties, to deliver flawless execution. May manage vendor and/or agency relationships and functions as the lead in the vendor selection process. The Marketing Manager works closely with patients, physician leadership, governing committees, and the general public, as required by project to lead it to its completion. Measures and reports outcomes; responsible for assigned marketing budgets.
Qualifications
  • Requires a transcript of strong academic performance in, and successful completion of, a master’s degree, and 7 years of experience in marketing; or a bachelor’s degree in a related field, 10 years of experience in marketing, and completion of a master’s degree within 4 years of hire. Experience to include the following:
    • Marketing campaign management including strategic design, execution and analysis
    • Experience in online education and/or with Learning Management Systems
    • Heavy digital marketing experience including, but not limited to, online targeting, Google Analytics / Adwords, segmented email marketing and social media
    • Ability to develop high-level business / marketing summaries for leadership
    • Experience working with creative teams / creative production groups
  • Project management experience is required.

Additional qualifications
  • Business acumen, including proven expertise in creating marketing strategies based on business objectives.
  • Requires strong leadership, problem solving ability, critical thinking, active listening, quantitative skills, persuasive oral and written communication, project management, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated excellence in presentation to small and large audiences, budgetary management, data analysis, and statistical competencies.
  • Proven execution ability, including digital marketing experience.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a consensus-style and collaborative environment that expects and promotes teamwork.
  • Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, changing environment, and have experience in effectively meeting deadlines on-time with a quality product.
  • Must possess the ability to inspire trust and confidence, and maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Will work independently and collaboratively to prioritize and drive forward multiple projects.
  • May require experience with marketing automation.
  • Must possess high personal motivation supporting a strong work ethic, flexibility, and creativity.
  • Experience in managing vendors, and/or agencies.
  • Will require experience with understanding data, surfacing trends, and working with digital and advertising channels.
  • Must require experience working with target audiences, market research, and competitive landscape evaluation.
  • Has a positive influence on others.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and a proven track record of synthesizing multiple, perhaps conflicting inputs and converting them to cohesive action.
  • Position requires occasional travel and the flexibility to work weekends and evenings as necessary.
