The Associate Manufacturing Engineer is a key operations representative within the Advanced Stapling Technology Manufacturing Engineering team. The Associate ME will be responsible for completing tasks which support the completion of operations deliverables for AST Focused Factory. General responsibilities include manufacturing process evaluation, mechanical product troubleshooting and support of in-house manufacturing processes. They will assist with engineering studies to support process validation and contribute to maximizing production performance. The Associate ME will work under the direction of Principal/Senior level Engineer in a fast paced collaborative environment supportive of program initiatives and compliant with company best practices.


Contribute to continuous improvements in overall product cost and quality

Maintain documentation associated with manufacturing process

Provide technical support for production including automation.

Follow established guidelines and management direction with regard to engineering decisions

Works independently in a manufacturing environment in support of AST Quality Mission, and in compliance with the Quality System Regulation (QSR), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and Work Instructions.

Under guidance from manager or engineer, improve existing products and manufacturing processes

May act as a technical reference or complete special projects in individual areas of expertise (i.e., Validations, tooling, packaging, testing, etc.)

May participate on teams in order to accomplish new product implementation, process design, process improvement or any other technical manufacturing issues.

Knows and follows all laws and policies that apply to one's job, and maintain the highest levels of professionalism, ethics and compliance at all times.

Diligently participate in our compliance program-related activities as denoted by your supervisor.

Prepare and present technical investigative reports to senior engineers, supervisors, and managers.

Performs other related duties, as required. Assist with performing IQ, PQ's and OQ as required per design control

Assist with writing, monitoring, and reviewing test protocols

Assist with the design of gages, fixtures and tooling

Implement cost reduction by working closely with manufacturing to reduce scrap and waste


Some travel to supplier visits required.

Continue to enhance engineering and leadership skills through additional training and education.

**A Day in the Life**

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

+ Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.

+ Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.

+ Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.

+ Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.

+ May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.

+ Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.

+ Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques.

+ Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.

+ Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.

**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**

+ Bachelors Degree Required

**Nice to Have**

Dynamic, positive attitude

Strong communication, manufacturing process, product industrialization and leadership skills

Solid design, troubleshooting and presentation skills

Knowledge of Lean and/or 6 Sigma

Knowledge of GDT

Knowledge of DFMEA and PFMEA

Strong Interpersonal Skills

Strong Computer skills


Close-working interface with Principal / Senior Manufacturing Engineers and inter-departmental functions in support of program initiatives


Standard office setting, clean room manufacturing area, model shop, Hospital OR.
