Job Description

Serve as a key member of the operations team, responsible for generating procedures, specifications, improved designs and processes for existing and new products that allows us realize customer requirements and performance specifications in a reliable, repeatable and cost-effective way. Specific areas of responsibility related to manufacturing engineering include:

+ Support the manufacturing team: provide technical expertise, evaluate and solve production problems, lead training activities, etc.

+ Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering to implement product and process improvements

+ Provide technical floor support for manufacturing including working directly with technicians to assist in troubleshooting or various issues

+ Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing processes for Hydroid products: Applying knowledge of process inputs, including equipment and tooling, fabrication and assembly methods, and product design, to produce predictable outputs.

+ Provide support in all areas of manufacturing, including supplier processes, internal production, and operational testing.

+ Examine and isolate root cause of process issues and develop solutions.

+ Identify opportunities and lead initiatives to reduce production costs and lead times, and increase efficiency.

+ Investigate and drive resolution to any interruptions in production throughput. Perform root cause analyses, plan and implement corrective/preventive actions.

+ Participate in new product designs, design reviews, and support transition to manufacturing.

+ Determine the readiness of new products for manufacturing, as well as manufacturing capability of existing products, with the goal of simplifying and optimizing the processes by with Hydroids products are manufactured.

+ Define manufacturing build documentation concepts & approach.

+ Stay current on factory space requirements and utilization, workflow and workspace efficiency.

+ Establish, maintain, and report appropriate metrics for performance tracking.

+ Provide timely and accurate manufacturing related responses to your internal customers.

+ Maintain compliance with safety and environmental policies.

+ Other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Analyzes and designs sequence of operations and work flow to improve efficiencies in plant and production facilities and equipment layouts; and establishes methods for maximum utilization of production facilities. May establish or assist in establishing accident prevention measures and may manage training programs concerning all phases of production operations. Conducts studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control, and production record systems. On the basis of these studies, develops and implements plans and programs for facility modifications and revisions to operating methods. May assist facilities engineers in the planning and design of facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

+ 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.

+ Must be able to obtain and maintain a government clearance #LI-MH1

Preferred Requirements

+ Preferred 5 or more years of experience in complex electro-mechanical manufacturing.

+ The candidate must have demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing best practices, Lean principals, DFMA, work cell design and factory floor layout, NPI, MRP, configuration control, and adherence to ISO quality requirements and standards. Strong applied troubleshooting skills and knowledge of continuous improvement tools is also necessary.

+ The successful candidate must have a proven track record of continuous improvement as measured by manufacturing performance-based metrics .

+ Applied knowledge and training in Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma is a requirement, green certified preferred. Understanding and application of statistical analysis techniques used for monitoring and measurement of manufacturing processes, production, and support systems is required.

+ Must be proficient in the creation of build documentation packages, development and implementation of procedures to manufacture, assemble, and test production product under tight regulatory controls. Ability to manage time and priorities to meet multiple, sometimes conflicting, deadlines.

+ Must be proficient in MSOffice tools and Solidworks, or other CAD software.

+ Experience with Deltek or another ERP system is required.

+ Some travel between Hydroid sites and within the supply chain will be required.

+ The ideal candidate is an individual that can work in a fast-paced environment; with a high attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, ability to multi-task and enthusiastic attitude.

Physical Requirements

May require working in an industrial or shipboard environment. Normally not required to lift more than 40 pounds higher than three feet above feet/floor level. May encounter extremes of temperature, pollution, humidity, noise, and other environmental factors while collecting data, observing performance of task teams.
