Job summary
There are over three million grocery products, but the capacity of a typical grocery store is in the tens of thousands. Amazon Fresh is building a team that will answer which products our customers are looking for in which store and develop ways to automatically solve this problem. Come and help us build this team!

As a Manager, Software Development, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers in design, development, test, and deployment of a range of large-scale back-end platform services that are fundamental to our product. You should have an established background in designing and building highly scalable systems, excellent project management skills, excellent communication skills, and the motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment. You will be helping to hire and build your team and systems, and establishing development processes.

Key job responsibilities

  • Pursue the vision and innovate with the team
  • Drive the development life cycle
  • Management and execution against project plans and delivery commitments
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment
  • Management of departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, and enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team
  • Work closely with the engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach
  • Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management

This team's stakeholders are Amazon Vendor Managers and In-Stock managers. It is our job to make their lives easier.

About the team
The team is responsible for selection management technology and automation for Amazon's grocery business world-wide.


  • 7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams
  • Experience partnering with product OR program management teams
  • 3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers
  • 3+ years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (MS, Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, etc.)
  • Development expertise in OOP, Java, Objective C, Amazon Web services, UNIX tool etc. would be a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences


  • Experience developing distributed systems, and understanding of design for scalability, performance and reliability
  • The ability to take raw product requirements and develop mobile architectures and designs to bring them to life
  • A strong track record of project delivery for large, cross-functional, projects
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and do what's necessary to drive your projects to completion
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work with multiple technical teams across Amazon in different locations.
  • Creative, flexible and self-motivated.
