Most importantly, everything we do, we do for the learner. **What You'll Do Here:** Asa member of the National Geographic Learning Global Production team, the Manager, Production Program Management leads and evaluates a team of Content Project Managers (CPM) to ensure high quality, cost effective, and on time production of all assigned products. The Content Program Manager accomplishes strategic objectives by overseeing multiple project activities; Organizes and monitors large-scale interconnected projects, while developing efficient strategies and tactics to successfully deliver programs to market. + The Manager, Production Program Management manages content production operations for assigned core and ancillary products for both print and digital. + Trains and supervises an assigned group of Content Project Managers to ensure delivery of high-quality, accurate, timely, and cost-effective project management from manuscript through bound books or digital production. + Manages all aspects of CPM responsibilities for the production of print and digital content for all components of assigned projects, including full-service project management and hands-on project management, as appropriate. + Personally manages select projects or components as needed. This position is directly responsible for the management of vendors and company resources to budget, schedule, and quality requirements. + Collaborates with other team leaders on department and cross-functional initiatives to ensure clear, effective standards and best practices. + Develops sound, strategic working relationships with cross-functional groups and key stakeholders, especially Product Management, Content Development, Design, Rights/Permissions, Manufacturing, and Digital Production. + Works closely with department management to ensure effective planning, transmittal, and delivery of all products. + Understands the interdependencies of projects under their supervision and manages risk when a delay may impact other projects and/or overall schedules. + Hires and directly supervises the work of a group of content project managers to achieve schedule, quality, and budget goals of interconnected print and digital products. + Monitors workload, plate expenditures, and optimum time-to-market dates to achieve revenue targets. + Works with CPMs to create and approve plate budgets for assigned projects. Investigates areas for cost savings without making compromises on quality. Monitors all costs throughout the production process for assigned team of CPMs. Reports on and coaches CPMs to resolve potential or actual budget overruns in a timely manner. Recommends or assists product team in determining alternate courses of action to keep project on budget. + Partners with Product Management to ensure effective plate estimating, and schedule expectations + Manages all group or individual activities related to early planning. This includes strategic planning to deliver project objectives: analyzing complex project scope and related information, staffing/resource planning, selecting and organizing vendors, workflow definition and process improvement, budget planning and optimization. Participates in and organizes as needed early planning meetings with Product team. + Attends Program Planning and Program Management meetings to represent content project management. + Provides input and approval on vendor placement, and manages the use of CL-approved scales vendors or other vendors as necessary to complete outsourced or hands-on production management for all assigned projects. + Monitors all vendor performance issues, and works with CPMs to hold vendors accountable for adhering to quality, budget, and schedule expectations. + Works within production and with other functional groups to achieve processes and standards that support efficient production. + Executes hands-on content project management work on components as business needs require. + Participates in or leads teams working on various initiatives either inside Production or across functional groups. + Ensures data integrity in all relevant systems. + Provides training in production-related tasks and processes across functional groups as required. + Establishes priorities and helps resolve process problem and workflow impediments. + Trains and supervises CPMs to manage hands-on projects that require coordination of all freelance/IC activities. Coach CPMs to anticipate and solve problems. + Works proactively and collaboratively as necessary with CPMs and cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery of all content, components, source files, and other deliverables for creation of print and/or digital projects. Presents issues and risks with proposed solutions in a timely manner. Escalates issues as needed and for effective management. + Ensures on-time delivery of all required project deliverables to the archive. + Uses solid decision-making, communication, and problem-solving skills to ensure successful, efficient, and economical results on each project. + Provides clear, direct, accurate and professional written and verbal communication at all times. + Sets goals for team. Works with the production team to enhance engagement and to impart and understand business goals. + Recommends plans to support personal and team development and growth. **Skills You Will Need Here:** **Required:** + University or college degree + Five or more years of experience in print and/or digital production, including at least two years of experience in management/supervision. + Strong knowledge of all aspects or content production, including project management, scheduling, proofreading, design, composition, prepress, and permissions + Thorough understanding of project management techniques and methods + Technology aptitude, which may include but is not limited to familiarity with XML-based tools or technologies used for print and digital production, archiving, or content reuse to facilitate new technology implementation. + Strong knowledge of financial procedures, ability to negotiate + Strong people management and organizational skills; ability to motivate immediate staff and stakeholders + Strong collaboration, influencing, and team building skills + Effective problem-solving and critical-thinking skills; the ability to identify, analyze, avoid, or resolve issues in a methodical, timely, and efficient manner while understanding the implications and expected outcomes + High level of initiative and innovation; ability to identify, propose, and support process improvements using critical thinking + Demonstrated ability to embrace and implement process improvement initiatives, to develop and motivate staff, and to manage people in an environment of continuous improvement and change + Ability to collaborate and work effectively and efficiently in a team environment and across functional areas to achieve desired outcomes + Strong presentation skills and ability to lead and participate in meetings at all levels + Excellent computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet skills, preferably with Microsoft Office; knowledge of Adobe Acrobat PDF editing and Internet fluency including cloud based filesharing + Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interpret and translate information to team members and report effectively to management when necessary + Highly organized and driven; able to set and meet objectives; the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities **Preferred:** + Direct people management experience + Knowledge of current digital prepress and publishing technologies and publishing software + Knowledge of ePub standards and other digital delivery format processes + Knowledge of offset and digital printing processes + Database experience + Knowledge of copyediting, proofreading, Microsoft Word styles, typecoding, and XML tagging \#LI-MO1 **Requisition ID** _2018-4926_ **Job Function** _Production_
