The School of Nursing has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Manager of Strategic Initiatives. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the general scope of duties and responsibilities include performing a broad range of activities related to the School's strategic initiatives, projects and events management. This position will act in an advisory and supporting capacity to the UW School of Nursing (SoN) Executive Operations Committee, which consists of the Dean, Executive Assistant to the Dean, and executive leaders from the Student and Academic Services, Learning and Information Technologies, Finance Administration and Human Resources, Advancement, and Marketing and Communications offices. 

This position will help align and support the Committees objectives of facilitating, managing, and executing strategic initiatives, projects, and events set by the Dean. As well, this position will assist the Committee perform the following: gather and review investment data in order to prioritize, strategize and evaluate returns to recommend to the Dean.  The position plays a crucial role in the monitoring and management of school-wide progress on strategic goals, projects, and events, and is responsible for the effective follow through of all projects and initiatives set forth by the Dean and Committee.   This position will research, compile and analyze data, statistics and other information related to ongoing projects and initiatives. The role will represent and serve as a SoN ambassador, liaising with constituents across campus and with local, national, and international stakeholders.

SoN is one of the nations top-ranked nursing schools in the country and a national and international leader in improving the health and well-being of individuals, families and communities through education, research and service. It is also one of the top schools in nursing research funding from the NIH and other sponsoring institutions. This position uses critical analysis skills to provide information and direction that will advance the organization's strategic agenda.  Additionally, this position develops and maintains professional relationships with key external constituents; serves as a liaison for the SoN on strategic initiatives and as an ambassador for the SoN to advance partnerships and collaborations.


Duties include but are not limited to:

Strategic initiative planning and Support:

  • Act as confidential liaison between the School and a full range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Research, plan and implement, or support the planning and implementation of strategic initiatives, of a broad range of activities and new projects designed to advance SoN priorities in the areas of nursing practice, interdisciplinary professional education, global health, enhancing faculty and staff diversity, operational excellence, the student experience, etc.
  • Conduct research, compile, and analyze data, statistics and other information and make recommendations based on data collected directly from peer institutions and other sources, providing decision support in making critical decisions regarding prioritizing initiatives.
  • Assemble data and prepares briefings and drafts reports and proposals, comparing different possible scenarios to operationalize strategic initiatives, making recommendations as to ranking scenarios to achieve the highest success.
  • Lead effective follow-up as appropriate.
  • Maintain a close working partnership and availability to the SoN Executive Operations Committee, by making recommendations, doing project and event planning, and help implementing strategic initiatives.
  • Liaison with collaborators on an on-call basis to accommodate communication including bridging gaps of global time zones to ensure follow-up and results. 
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with internal and external constituents to advance partnerships and collaborations in areas of high potential opportunities, linking the SoN with key players to further strategic initiatives.
  • Identify high potential opportunities to link the SoN with key players to further strategic initiatives and established priorities both within the University and with peer institutions across the nation and internationally.
  • Serve as an interface with other public and private schools of nursing to further collaborations for nursing programs, develop minority faculty and unify nursings voice for lobbying efforts.
  • Support a broad range of activities as part of the schools strategic interdisciplinary goals.
  • Maintain current knowledge of interdisciplinary initiatives, partnerships and collaborations both internally, nationally and internationally to enhance School visibility and best leverage the SoNs priorities and time.
  • Monitor and track related items to ensure effective meetings/events preparation; conducts follow-up.


    Operations:

  • Ensure compliance with University rules and regulations.
  • Schedule meetings, coordinate setting of agendas and research and preparation of materials and ensure follow-up on action items.
  • Conduct news and literature searches and follow-up investigations on information.
  • Identify journal linkages to nursing internationally.
  • Coordinate communications, utilizing sound judgment; drafts and edits documents.
  • Provide a high level of solution driven problem solving to ensure responsive service on a wide variety of issues.
  • Help plan and coordinate complex and confidential visits of special guests to the School.


    Miscellaneous:

  • Perform other duties as required to support the ongoing mission and strategic plans of the School.
  • In absence of the Executive Assistant to the Dean, this position will fulfill the responsibilities and obligations set in that role. Duties include, but are not limited to: calendaring, meeting preparation, administrative tasks, and others as assigned.

    Requirements:

    Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or related field AND 4-5 years of applicable experience.

    Additional Requirements:
    Experience with complex project planning: organization, logistics, and communication; in addition, ability to create and synthesize project outcome reports
    Professionalism and discretion
    Excellent communication and verbal skills, at all levels, including diverse backgrounds and cultures, in-person, written, and electronically
    Ability to work independently and within a team setting when collaboration is required

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.

    Desired:
    Masters degree in a relevant field
    Experience with nursing or medical field
    Experience working with donors

    Conditions of Employment: position will work an agreed upon weekly schedule, upon hire. But at times of high productivity or because of event obligations, evening, weekend, or early mornings may be required to accomplish School of Nursing goals. In addition, travel to various sites and/or cities may be required.
