  • Provide patient care support and assist providers as instructed by the physician, provider or RN.
  • Administer therapies including medications, calling in provider authorized prescriptions, scheduling follow up visits (and prior authorization) or other support unique to a specialty provider.
  • Process prior authorizations or refills which require additional information outside of refill protocol
  • Provide patient care pre/post encounter or procedure, preventative or other health information per provider or RN.
  • Collaborate with Provider and team on improving and managing quality goals.
  • Demonstrate appropriate injection techniques including land marking, Sub Q, IM, Z track and Intradermal.
  • Room patients, manage patient flow and obtain adequate patient medical information/data.
  • Coordinate communication of medical information.
  • Confirm information with patient when necessary and document per practice.
  • Perform rooming and vitals according to Clinic Division standards..
  • Assist in the collection, labeling and processing specimens timely/accurately.
  • Keep patient informed of provider schedule and notify provider when patient is ready.
  • Follow through to resolve service problems promptly and professionally with the involvement of the appropriate clinic personnel.
  • Provide outbound calls to patients to follow up as directed which may include notifying patients of test results.
  • May be responsible for documenting the visit while in the exam room with the physician. As requested by physician.
  • Receive or initiate patient phone calls and follow practice or protocol while gathering pertinent data regarding the reason for call or patient request.
  • May confirm or reiterate patient symptom using patient's own words.
  • May arrange for appropriate appointment or forward to RN or provider for review/recommendation.
  • Provide standard community health information.
  • Document all encounters and patient interactions accurately and completely in EMR.
  • Return patient call with provider recommendation. If applicable, forward call to provider team member during absence.
  • Actively engage in Team Communication, huddles or other activities.
  • Participate in team discussion on ways to improve patient care, refine existing workflows or establishing new processes for improved patient care.
  • Schedule/cancel appointments for existing patients following standard practice.
  • May checkout and schedule follow up visits with provider or appropriate staff before patient leaves.
  • Clean, prepare, organize and re-stock exam rooms.
  • Clean and ensure the proper maintenance occurs for all exam rooms and sterilize instruments as trained.
  • Ensure that required teaching supplies are restocked and readily available.
  • Stock and supply exam rooms according to standards and patient needs.
  • Travel to outreach sites as needed

Education

  • Graduate of an AAMA accredited Medical Assistant or LPN program and meets Allina Health requirements for education programs.
  • Graduate of an accredited practical nurse program

Qualification/Skills

  • Current LPN or Medical Assistant certification through AAMA or must obtain AAMA certification within 12 months from date of hire. Non-Certified only through acquisition or grandfathered by special exception. BLS certification within 30 days of hire. Or – can be Registered with AMT registry within 12 months of date of hire.
  • Prefer minimum of one year clinic Medical Assistant experience. Experience working with electronic medical records program strongly preferred.
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse or graduate of an accredited program

Ability to:

  • Utilize customer service skills in order to positively impact the experience of care for our patients, external customers and internal service partners.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and excellent customer service skills.
  • Respond to various patient needs.
  • Communicate and work within a team environment effectively.
  • Perform vital signs, documentation, infection control, medication administration and emergency procedures (IE: CPR).
  • Maintain good organization, problem solving and judgment.
  • Follow all procedures and protocols for assigned work area.
  • Standing for long periods of time. Some bending, stooping, and stretching. Lifting patients to a maximum of 32 lbs. except in an emergency (i.e. patient falling). May lift items up to 50 lbs.
  • Keyboard & navigate within an electronic medical record work environment.
  • Staffs with clinical accountability that need to adapt/modify care or treatment based on the patient’s attributes in order to meet the patients and families care needs. Example: RN, Pharmacist, Respiratory Therapists.
  • Lifting 50 lbs maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects up to 25 lbs. In accordance with Allina Health’s Safe Patient Moving policy, lifting demands for patient moving tasks should not exceed 32 lbs. except in an emergency (i.e. patient falling).
