Our GI Surgical Oncology Unit is a post-surgical unit that see patients with a variety of gastrointestinal and liver related diseases as well as a broad array of benign and malignant tumors. Our patients have undergone complex surgeries, including Whipple’s, liver and/or colon resections, hernia repairs, mastectomies, and multiple laparoscopic procedures. Our gastrointestinal surgeons are experts in their field, employing a multidisciplinary approach to treatment while providing each patient the highest quality of care available. UAB is an expert in minimally invasive surgery and has national leaders in GI surgery and quality initiatives. Under general supervision, to provide nursing care to patients based on the nursing process, UAB Hospital Standards of Nursing Care, and UAB Hospital policies and procedures while ensuring quality of care. To orient patients and family members to surrounding environment, acting as a patient advocate. To collect patient assessment data and notify RN of potential problems. To evaluate patient s response to care and report findings to RN, document delivery of patient care, effectively respond to emergency situations, demonstrate positive interpersonal skills, meet patient s educational needs, and serve as a role model to other members of the patient care team. Hourly Range: $18.35 - $29.80 Qualifications @Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing Program required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed or licensed by endorsement as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required. |
