Overview

Princeton Universitys Office of Information Technology (OIT) has a 3-year term opening for a highly skilled application developer to join its Learning Management System (LMS) team. The LMS team is responsible for managing, maintaining, and providing training in the Universitys virtual learning environments.

Reporting to the LMS Senior Manager, the application developer will code, test, and maintain high quality academic applications and services. The position will assist in supporting and managing the University's current LMS, Blackboard. As well, this position will participate in the migration to the newly-adopted LMS, Instructures Canvas, which includes assisting with integration and customization for the new system. The support will extend to associated applications and data-sharing services, and other web application development projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full stack of Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) development.
  • Provide full stack of web-based application development (including design, coding, and testing), using technology standards adopted and endorsed by the department.
  • Perform LMS system administration tasks, including user provisioning, and creating and modifying courses/enrollments.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and implements appropriate solutions.
  • Deliver technical support to the LMS user support team.
  • Work on special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of experience as a Java application developer.
  • Experience administering a leading LMS solution, such as Blackboard or Canvas.
  • Deep knowledge of current web application frameworks, such as Java Spring framework and PHP.
  • Expertise in developing web application frontends using tools such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript framework.
  • Experience using a variety of system integration methods and technologies, including SOAP, REST web services and APIs.
  • Experience working with SQL against a leading relational database technology (such as Oracle, SQLSever, Postgres).
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly master new programming frameworks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask between and among projects.
  • Strict adherence to all University procedures regarding proprietary/confidential data to ensure privacy and security.
  • Experience working in and contributing to a team-oriented, collaborative environment that values positive, collegial relationships among co-workers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a higher education setting.
  • Detailed understanding of Nginx and Linux.

Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
