Job Description:

Seeking talented FPGA Electrical Design Engineer able to lead teams, mentor less experienced engineers, and drive results in a fast paced, dynamic environment.  This position will lead FPGA Firmware Engineering activities in the Space & Airborne Systems (SAS) Segment of L3Harris.  The SAS Segment provides mission solutions for space and airborne domains with defense, intelligence, and commercial applications.

Essential Functions:

  • Decompose and allocate system and box-level requirements to FPGA specifications.
  • Architect solutions targeting FPGAs against requirements and implement those solutions on FPGA platforms.
  • Map FPGA simulation work products to system-level requirements and capabilities
  • Refine and enforce consistent firmware development processes across FPGA designs.
  • Lead teams of engineers generating the FPGA design solutions.
  • Ensure the FPGA simulations verify performance, then integrate and test the FPGA on the circuit card assembly.
  • Lead the full life cycle development and integration of VHDL into different families of FPGAs.

    Qualifications:

    • BS Degree in electrical/computer engineering and 9+ years of professional experience, OR, a Masters in electrical/computer engineering and 7+ years of professional experience
    • Experience with and understanding of Altera or Xilinx FPGA architectures
    • Experience with high speed serial protocols (PCI Express, SRIO, Ethernet)
    • Experience designing 10G Ethernet based Network Interface Designs
    • Experience in network protocols including IPv6 and UDP
    • Experience with SoC (Kintex UltraScale/UltraScale+, Virtex UltraScale/UltraScale+, Zynq UltraScale)
    • Experience with VHDL

      Preferred Additional Skills:

      • Experience designing with Northwest Logic Gen 3 PCIe and 3rd Party DDR3 cores
      • Proficiency with Xilinx, Microsemi, and Altera Tool Suites (VHDL, Synthesis, Place and Route, Simulation, Timing Analysis).
      • Thorough understanding of version control best practices and tools (subversion, git, etc) to closely track changes to the FPGA baseline.
      • Experience with control protocols such I2C, SPI, RS-232/422, and SpaceWire.
      • Experience with complex block and top level simulations of FPGA designs requiring high level transaction-based models.
      • Not required but a plus: Active Secret or Top Secret Security Clearance
      • Self-motivated individual with the ability to work and communicate effectively within a development group.
      • Ability to work in a team environment and negotiate solutions with Hardware / Software Engineering and Systems Engineering is desired
