Responsibilities

  • Greet patient, perform check-in process, and is responsive to questions and patient needs.
  • Evaluates patient orders for completeness and follows up as needed.
  • Performs scheduling, ordering and releasing, as appropriate in AMR, following reception policies and procedures.
  • Review orders and identify correct patient.
  • Identify and use appropriate collection method to obtain samples for testing (venipuncture or capillary puncture).
  • Instruct patients accurately on procedures and protocols.
  • Verify correct patient identification.
  • Collects sample and label specimen correctly.
  • Demonstrate an ability to assess and react effectively to unique patient needs.
  • Follow all procedures and protocols for assigned work area.
  • Follow all federal regulations including CAP, OSHA, COLA, CLIA, and HIPAA.
  • Stock, rotate and request phlebotomy supplies (as assigned) on a regular basis to ensure proper availability in the work area.
  • Perform processing (as required) with strict adherence to the quality control and quality assurance policies of Allina Health in order to provide the patients and providers with the most accurate and timely test results possible.
  • Adherence to CAP, OSHA, COLA, and CLIA (through Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) requirements is mandatory

Education

Minimum High School diploma or GED.

* For diplomas earned outside of the United States a record of diploma/transcript equivalency evaluation by a foreign credentialing agency must be provided at time of hire.

Qualification/Skills

Preferred (Desired) Qualifications

Prefer specific training in phlebotomy, including internship, in a healthcare field.

For positions with venipuncture as a job task, a minimum of 6 months of phlebotomy experience preferred.

Ability to:

  • Utilize communication and customer service skills in order to positively impact patient experience.
  • Read and understand oral and written instructions and follow established written policies and procedures.
  • Work independently and function effectively in a team setting.
  • Demonstrate computer skills to navigate within information system.
  • Focused attention to detail
  • Prioritize and organize tasks/ assignments and multitask as appropriate.
  • Bend, stoop and stand frequently.
