Defense

The Defense group supports the Department of Defense (DoD) mission to keep our homeland and its citizens safe. We provide solutions to improve the Nation's defense by providing software, systems engineering, IT, training and logistics and fleet management solutions.


Responsibilities

  • Perform software coding tasks to develop weather modernization microservices for Next Generation Naval Aviation Mission Planning as part of a scrum team in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment.
  • Coding tasks will be defined by acceptance criteria to include input/output requirements, performance requirements, coding language of implementation, and information assurance.
  • Perform software quality analysis to include testing, collection of software metrics, and code reviews.Examples of acceptable testing methodologies include unit testing, input/output validation, and full path analysis. Software quality analysis shall be performed concurrently with software development.
  • Take part in regular system engineering and daily standup meetings to provide status and also generate software engineering artifacts including system diagrams, briefing materials, and reports as well as informal, informational artifacts in tabular or graphical form.
  • Employ open systems design to build reusable, modular system components.
  • Develop system components using coding languages, application programming interfaces (APIs) and language-based frameworks as directed by project technical lead that will primarily include Java and JavaScript but may also include C, C++, and Python.
  • Provide system engineering and/or software coding deliverables / artifacts as part of bi-weekly Agile sprint closeouts and demos. Participate in program increment (PI) demos and planning meetings to demonstrate features completed in the PI and assist in coordinating with other scrum teams to identify and mitigate interdependencies and risks to support upcoming features in the next PI.

Might be asked to travel up to 20% of the time - most likely one week per 2-3 months.


Qualifications

Programming experience: 5-7 years with BS/BA or 4-5 years with MS/MA/MBA

Desired Experience & Skills

  • Must currently possess a DoD SECRET security clearance, or be SECRET clearance eligible
  • Experience with Java development
  • Experience with front end technologies: TypeScript, ReactJS, Material UI
  • Version Control experience with Mercurial or Git
  • Familiar with both Windows and Linux
  • Experience with Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Web Services

Secondary Skills

  • Experience with programming / Testing Tools: RabbitMQ, Jenkins, Jira, Checkmarx, Code Dx, Eclipse, IntelliJ IDEA, Visual Studio
  • Practical experience with meteorology, oceanography, climatology products/data
  • General experience with weather info and mission planning
  • Microservices software development experience
  • Experience with Docker, Openshift, Artifactory to develop, ship and run applications
  • Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) teams
  • Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Master (CSM) Certification
