This position will report directly to the Chief Information Officer and will have a critical voice in supporting the values and mission for the technological needs for the University of Washington Intercollegiate Athletics Department (ICA). The incumbent will be responsible for technical operations and maintenance of hardware and software including the technical services required to support events throughout the UW Athletics Village.

STRATEGIC PLANNING
  • Analyze computing and technology requirements and develop short and long-range goals and cost-justification analyses including event specific budget forecasts. Implement policies and operational procedures in relation to stadium and event center technical services best practices.
  • Provide technical support for the coordination, planning, and development of wireless and computing technology to be provided in Husky Stadium and other athletics facilities/venues.
  • Stay abreast of changes and trends in technology and propose changes as needed to support emerging technology and requirements.
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships with university and non-university affiliates such as UW Information Technology (UWIT), UW Purchasing as well as wireless, software and communications providers.
  • Serve as special projects technical consultant and manager.

    OPERATIONS AND NETWORK MANAGEMENT
  • Manage daily computing and communications operations and special operations for facilities and events.
  • Maintain departmental information and network security.
  • Provide computing staff and support for home football games, basketball games, and support for other sporting events.
  • Provide web updates to department online partners. Coordinate satellite TV installation, support wireless frequencies and operations.
  • Liaison with contracted vendors who provide ticketing and development processing systems; oversee upgrades and troubleshooting.
  • Manage the daily downloads from the UW Central Gift Office,  streamline processes and problem solve as necessary.
  • Oversee equipment, staffing and operations for the student-athlete computer lab. Manage the laptop check-out program and advise, train and assist end users.

    ADMINISTRATION
  • Manage administrative functions. Work with the CIO and Senior Systems Analyst to manage the annual computer office budget and provide reporting and forecasting plans. Generate reporting in alignment with departmental key performance indicators (KPIs) to inform data driven decisions. Develop and oversee departmental computing policies and procedures in accordance with University of Washington, State and NCAA regulations.
  • Liaison with UW Purchasing and outside vendors for contracted services. Oversee the purchase of hardware, software, office equipment and licensing or service agreements. Manage the inventory of equipment and software (asset management).

    PERSONNEL
  • Work with the Senior Systems Analyst to track projects and supervise computer support staff (4 FTEs), including seasonal hourly workers. Responsible for providing insight on annual performance reviews and making recommendations as to promotions, reclassification or salary adjustments. Mentor the support staff in research and problem solving. Oversee the support staff in their responsibilities for the development and improvement of departmental databases, computing operations and support, ordering computing supplies or printing orders, and other duties as assigned.

    Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Pac-12 Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University.  The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations.  As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

    REQUIREMENTS: 
    Bachelors degree in computer science, engineering, business administration, or relevant work experience.  Two to four years of relevant professional experience and educational background with specific experience in information technology management, and project management. Understanding of project management methodologies e.g. Scrum, PMP, Agile, ITSM, etc. Advanced technical degree is a plus. Must be available after normal work hours (within reason) for staff support.  Should be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
