What you'll do

Responsible for providing support to IP Counsels. This position will be responsible for all aspects of IP support, from the filing of patent applications in multiple jurisdictions, diary management, M&A activity, inventor renumeration and completing formality-based actions.

  • Format and finalize patent documents and submit them to the USPTO & WIPO. 
  • Update Cytiva€™s patent database, Anaqua, with local related actions, creating and closing tasks and ensuring accurate up to date reports for the attorney. 
  • Work with Global IP management team actively promoting simplification of processes to increase efficiency, lower costs and minimize risk for all patent formality activities. 
  • Provide assistance to IP counsels as need arises, such as collecting and collating data, translating documents, etc. 
  • Collaborate with paralegal colleagues to provide and communicate solutions to local based queries. 
  • Prepare reports as required by the Senior IP team. 
  • Management of local mailbox ensuring outside counsel correspondence is docketed and directed to IP counsel. 
  • Support M&A activity with items including but not limited to, compiling schedules of patents from Cytiva€™s patent database, recording name changes and patent assignments at patent offices, re-assignment of newly acquired patent dockets and working with third party counterparts to transfer out-going patent dockets. 
  • Manage the docket(s) of patent attorney(s) and patent agent(s). 
  • Interface with preferred providers of patent legal services as required to ensure that filings are made by the required filing dates and deadlines. 
  • Assist with special projects to address local business needs.  
  • Prepare, organize and file patent applications in the USPTO, other countries, and PCT. 
  • Undertake periodic reviews to quality review and validate data within the Anaqua tool ensuring data integrity is maintained. 
  • Complete inventor renumeration based tasks as required by the business adhering to global policy.

    Who you are

    • Knowledge of laws, regulations, practices, and procedures relating to procurement of patents in the US and in countries other than the US, as well as knowledge of and experience using the USPTO€™s PAIR system and EFS (electronic filing system) to file US and PCT patent applications. 
    • Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university, and 5 years of patent practice work experience in a law firm or in-house legal department (or minimum 7 years of experience without an Associate Degree).
    • Knowledge of the Anaqua data base or an equivalent patent management system. 
    • Ability to work effectively both individually and as a member of a team. 
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and oral. 
    • Basic knowledge of patent procedures of foreign Patent Offices especially in EP, JP and China. 
    • Ability to recognize and avoid detrimental mistakes by understanding the impact and importance of IP rights. 
    • Ability to accurately follow complex procedures and be proactive to improve and simplify existing processes. 
    • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information. 
    • Ability to exercise sound judgment and execute against deliverables under tight deadlines and competing priorities. 
    • Strong time management skills. Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast- paced environment. 
    • Cope well in a pressurized environment. 
    • Adaptable and open to change, process oriented, global mindset. 
    • Flexible and innovative approach to problem solving.
    • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Professional and Microsoft Office software products. 
    • Experience communicating with clients, such as outside counsel and members of a business team at a variety of levels of management, as well as virtual and / or global teams. 
    • Experience managing concurrent projects from initiation to completion.
