The Instructional Multimedia Production Specialist L2 is responsible for collaborating with faculty and staff to design video-based learning content so that it is instructionally valuable to the student audience as part of a course (i.e., manage the creation, construction and design of video content to support learning activities in a pedagogical setting).  This role is also responsible for creating a compelling video narrative to aid in the delivery of learning.  The role requires experience with creative storytelling, interviewing and online learning pedagogy; excellent interpersonal and relationship management abilities; and technical skillsets.

Position Complexities
The Instructional Multimedia Production Specialist L2 will film and produce a large number of video assets for online courses.  The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, is able to work independently to manage projects, collaborate with instructional designers, program managers, curriculum designers, media specialists and has experience developing creative solutions for academic instruction and online learning.  In addition, the candidate will assist in managing and mentoring Instructional Multimedia Production Specialist L1, student workers and interns.

Instructional Media Design

  • Provide instructional and pedagogical guidance to faculty instructors and instructional designer staff about most effective ways to capture, discretize, and deliver video-based learning content
  • Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate video-based learning content
  • Capture video (lecture and introductory) of instructors for online learning programs
  • Course Content Production:  Produce, design and edit video content and digital media assets for multiple online education courses including lecture content, program and course overview videos, titles, animation and B-roll.  Additionally, produce other, miscellaneous single and multi-camera events for UW PCE.  Handle projects from initial concept & design to final delivery.
  • Graphics Creation:  Create supporting title graphics using Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro and other graphics creation programs
  • Recording and editing of content:  Set up and operate video recording equipment, including audio and lighting systems on location and in studio.  Intermediate post-production editing of video content using Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, Camtasia, Mediasite Editor and other editing programs.
  • Ability to schedule, manage and train student worker and or interns
  • Drive University of Washington vehicles for on and off-campus productions

    Production/ Operations
  • Assist in the design and maintenance of digital assets
  • Administer Digital Media Repositories (such as MediaAmp, YouTube, Vimeo) from a content side, making sure that videos are uploaded properly, have the correct metadata, and are pushed out to instructional designers in the right format
  • Support faculty with video technology training for students and instructors (e.g., camera, editing software)
  • Support the upload, linking and presentation of videos; create metadata in the required LMS or MOOC Learning Technologies
  • Creation and Delivery of Web-based Multimedia:  Encode web-based multimedia to multi-format files including Windows Media, MPEG4, Quicktime and other formats as needed or requested
  • Collaborate with EDGE, PCE Marketing, UWTV and other UW video production departments and personnel as well as clients both inside and outside the organization to maximize features of various projects

  • Document and communicate project plans and ongoing status to the Project Manager, as well as work as a part of the multimedia production team
  • Regular contact with Online Learning personnel is expected for problem resolution, project status and implementation of new initiatives
  • Perform special assignments and related/other duties as assigned
  • Attend regular status meetings with the supervisor and full academic excellence team

  • Bachelors Degree in Business, Communications or related field AND 2 years of digital video production experience, including streaming media, new online learning technologies and multimedia production (equivalent experience may be substituted for degree requirement)
  • Experience as a Multimedia Producer
  • Experience with creative storytelling, interviewing and online learning pedagogy
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills and the ability to work independently
  • Experience with digital video and audio, streaming media and new online learning technologies
  • Understanding of basic HTM
  • Ability to meet given deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience with audio, video and quality control equipment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions for academic instruction and online learning
  • Valid Drivers license
  • Ability to lift up to 45 lbs
