We have an outstanding opportunity for a Clinical Nurse Specialist who will work in partnership to provide clinical consultation and support to staff and patients regarding the management of intensive care patients.  In this role, the ICU CNS will provide education to enhance staff skills, critical thinking, and evidence-based practice, as well as support clinical inquiry activities. the ICU CNS develops and monitor systems to ensure quality and safety in patient care.

Specific Functions:
Generalist ICU CNS supporting four ICUs as part of a CNS/Educator team.
Provides specialized, direct care and leadership appropriate to age of patients and families as a health care team member. 
Consults with staff regarding assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. Serves as a role model and provides information and resources to cultivate staff skills and enhance nursing practice and nurse retention.
Coordinates care delivery for complex patients, including identification of ethical issues and resources to assure safety and quality patient care.
Develops evidence based protocols, promotes clinical standards and practice improvements and evaluates outcomes.
Develops collaborative, colleagial relationships with staff of various disciplines and draws on these relationships to enhance clinical care.
Collaborates with staff and managers and fellow CNS and Educator colleagues to identify staff learning needs and develops and conducts educational activities.
Remains current regarding evidence based research and literature. Facilitates adoption of evidence into practice by bringing evidence-based information to the clinical setting.
Contributes clinical expertise and nursing perspectives to decision-making processes through committees, project development and work groups house wide.
Leads selected projects or programs with focus on quality and patient safety including delirium management, Critical Care Pain Observation Tool (CPOT), massive transfusion protocol, pressure injury prevention, CLABSI, CAUTI, and phase 1 recovery in the ICU setting.
Coordinates quarterly quality summits to mentor staff in evidence based practices to prevent pressure injuries,  CLABSI, and CAUTI.
Supports Outcomes Conference through follow up with nursing staff who are involved in the care of patients who have died. Lending the nurses voice to interdisciplinary discussions.   
Assists CRNAs in planning and presenting moderate sedation classes and competency assessments.
Remains current in pharmacology specifically related to vasoactive medications (or as needed) in order to educate and support nursing staff.
Works collaboratively with Northwest Campus colleagues.
Communicates information and conducts educational services regarding advancements in nursing practice within the organization and to the community at large.
Other duties as assigned.

Position is 80% days, and requires Master's degree in Nursing and 3-5 years of critical care nursing experience.  Two years of leadership experience preferred.
