The Head of External Communications is responsible for developing and executing our enterprise external communications strategy. This includes developing an overall corporate message architecture, and overseeing external communications plans, processes and vehicles to help achieve the companys reputation goals. Directs enterprise (non-business line) relationships with the media, as well as external executive visibility, Public Affairs and Communications social and digital media, website and public affairs communications Builds and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure proper external messaging of company strategies and corporate initiatives Serves as corporate spokesperson and the primary day-to-day media contact for key corporate leaders Leads and manages the External Communications team Collaborates and makes decisions in conjunction with major corporation programs, plans or strategies. Independent action is normally required although other senior leaders are usually consulted before final action is taken Holds a high level of accountability, as errors would have a material effect on major functions of the corporation Works primarily from an office, with occasional travel Oversees a team of five professional employees; in the next six - 12 months the position may be responsible for additional direct and indirect reports Manages external communications annual budget ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Develop and execute external communications strategy for the organization Provide strategic direction and leadership to External Communications staff Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to understand their needs for external communications campaigns Actively ensure compliance with all US Bancorp policies and procedures The Head of External Communications leader reports to the Global Head of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs. They are responsible for unifying the corporate external communications strategy and tactics under one leader. This newly created position unifies all external communications work related to the corporation and it's on-business operations (Legal, Finance, Human Resources, Risk, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Government Relations, Board support) companywide, including public relations, medial relations, executive visibility and speechwriting, Internet, digital and social media and public affairs. Responsibilities: -Developing and executing companywide external communications strategy. -Creation of and execution on the overall corporate message architecture and messaging, and overseeing all communications processes, vehicles and plans to ensure consistency with company strategy and our core brand identity. -Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure proper messaging of company strategies and corporate initiatives. -Serve as chief corporate spokesperson and the primary day-to-day media contact for key corporate leaders. -Lead and manage the External Communications department, including responsibility for financials. -Decisions are made in conjunction with major corporation programs, plans or strategies. -Independent action is normally required although other division or senior managers are usually consulted before final action is taken. -Primarily office-based work, occasional travel. -Overseas team of six professional employees. -In the next 6-12 months the position may expand to more direct reports and a more extended team. -Manages external communications annual budget. -Directs all corporation (non-business) relationships with the media, as well the executive visibility/speechwriting function, corporate communications social and digital media, website and public affairs communications. **Qualifications:** 15 years of corporate communications experience Established relationships with national news media Demonstrated success managing public affairs and social media campaigns PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Well-developed analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills Considerable tact, diplomacy and people skills. -10 years of banking experience -Well-developed verbal and written communication skills -BA/MBA in finance, accounting, or other related field -Well-developed analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills -Considerable tact, diplomacy and people skills. -Well-developed leadership abilities and strategic management skills -5 years management experience **Job:** Marketing / Communications **Primary Location:** United States **Shift:** 1st - Daytime **Average Hours Per Week:** 40 **Requisition ID:** 190036833 U.S. Bank is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to creating a diverse workforce.
