Harborview Medical Center has an outstanding opportunity for a 60% FTE (24 hours per week), Day Shift, Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant position.

Department: OBOT (Office Based Opiod Treatment) Team

TITLE: Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant

RESPONSIBLE TO: Manager of OBOT Programs and Assistant Director of ARNPs/PAs

Under general supervision of the Assistant Director, the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (APP) provides clinical expertise to patients and their families, is a resource person for health care providers, and participates in research and teaching programs. Work is performed with general independence and decision-making responsibility under the general guidance of the attending physicians, chief resident, clinical lead APP, and assistant director of APPs. Guidelines include general policy procedures and practice guidelines established by the department and Harborview Medical Center, as well as appropriate professional and technical manuals. This Position works with the Opioid Treatment Team and provides medication assisted treatment for individuals with opioid use disorder.

Standards of Performance:
1. Documentation – documents pertinent findings & diagnostics on chart and/or in dictation, completes Pro Fee sheet appropriately
2. Accuracy – orders appropriate diagnostic tests
3. Thoroughness – follows through with diagnostic tests
4. Follow-up – makes discharge referrals appropriately
5. Prescribing – prescribes appropriate medication on an individualized basis
6. Specialty Consults – requests appropriate specialty consults
7. Ancillary Consultation – orders PT, OT, Diabetic Education, etc., appropriately
8. Dictation – does dictation in a timely manner
9. Transcription – reads, signs, and requests edit of transcription in a timely manner
10. Attending Consultation – seeks consultation by attending physician appropriately
11. Procedures – performs suturing, line placement, lumbar puncture appropriately
12. Admissions – consults with appropriate admitting team and completes paperwork
13. Clinical Lab – uses lab resources appropriately
14. Neatness – keeps work area clean, cleans lab resources after using
15. Productivity – see an appropriate number of patients in a shift
16. Use of Time – uses time at work in job related activity
17. Students – shares knowledge base with students in clinic training
18. Working Relationships – works well with superiors, colleagues, & subordinates
19. Reliability – arrives to work in a timely manner, uses sick time appropriately
20. Competence – overall performance

Standards of Daily Practice:
1. Evaluates the patient’s needs and implements the appropriate medical/nursing interventions directed toward the restoration of optimal mental and physical well-being of the patient and family as they cope with the crisis of acute/chronic illness.
2. Communicates the discharge plan to the patient and significant others.
3. Demonstrates respect for the patient’s confidentiality.
4. Recognizes and addresses situations and concurrent medical problems that pose a challenge to the patient’s return to their pre-admission status.
5. Maintains active involvement in issues of cost containment, discharge planning, and throughput.
6. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge and adherence to the policies and procedures at HMC.
7. Practices effective interpersonal communication.
8. Demonstrates flexibility while striving as a specialized clinical practitioner within the hospital.

1. Acts as consultant role model, educator, and resource for nursing and health care professionals.
2. Provides direction for creative approaches to the management of complex patient problems.
3. Provides educational and support to nurses, peers, students, residents, and the community.

1. Participates in interdepartmental efforts to facilitate a safe environment.
2. Understands and follows hospital and departmental protocol for emergencies and disasters.
3. Takes immediate action to address environmental, equipment, or engineering issues that present a potential safety risk.
4. Functions within safety, infection control, emergency, and equipment guidelines.

1. Maintains awareness of others and greets patients, families, visitors, managers, and staff in a manner that conveys a positive reception.

Quality Assessment and Improvement:
1. Recommends and assists with implementing, as appropriate, solutions for resolving procedural system causes for incidents/risks.
2. Develops clerical organization tools or systems that prevent errors/increases efficiency and accuracy; seeks cost-effective alternatives for routine and specialized office supplies and equipment.
3. Develops/participates in departmental/hospital Continuing Quality Improvement (CQI) programs.

Masters Degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing
Washington State Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner License with prescriptive privileges
National certification as a Nurse Practitioner
National certification as a Physicians Assistant
