Position Summary:

L3Harris Advanced Systems & Technologies (AS&T) division specializes in developing disruptive, next-generation technologies for advanced Unmanned Air Systems (UAS / UAV), advanced radar systems, next-generation weapon systems, and other RF sensor technologies using small company agility and big company experience.

We are searching for a GNC Engineer 3 in our Advanced Systems & Technologies (AS&T) division, located in located in Plano,TX. 

Using first-principles thinking, GNC engineers use a foundational understanding of physics combined with multi-disciplinary experience to develop and evaluate system capability to help steer a program’s path forward.GNC Engineers are responsible for simulation and software development, implementation, testing,and analysis to support a variety of vehicle types and configurations. 

Major Job Activities:

  • Support simulation/software development and task scoping/status
  • Develop dynamic vehicle aerodynamic, propulsion, and hardware/sensor models
  • Develop guidance algorithms to provide mission capability
  • Design and tune controllers for vehicle stability and control
  • Integrate a suite of sensor feedback for Navigation and Guidance algorithms development
  • Analyze system performance, capabilities, sensitivities, and issues using a variety of methods
  • Support Growth of GNC Functional Organization through creation of process/technical resources
  • Analysis support of root-cause failure  identification and resolution studies
  • Create design/results for presentation to internal and external customers
  • Other duties as assigned


    • Must be a U.S. citizen with ability obtain and maintain a secret DoD clearance.Must be able to obtain and maintain additional clearances as required
    • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Mathematics(Advanced degree preferred)
    • Demonstrated Technical Capability in at least one GNC discipline (Guidance, Target State Estimation, Navigation, Control Theory, Vehicle Modeling)
    • Excellent problem solving and math skills
    • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, and Microsoft Office products
    • Ability to work, and collaborate in a fast-paced, agile development environment across multiple engineering disciplines
    • Demonstrated Behavioral Competencies (Positive Attitude, Mentoring, Emotional Intelligence, Teaming, Delegation, Strong Work Ethic)
    • Demonstrated Communication Skills (written, verbal, and presentation for internal and external customers)

      Preferred Skills

      • Familiarity with a variety of mission sensors (radar, optical, etc) types, modes, and stabilization
      • Familiarity with a variety of vehicle sensors (GPS, Antenna, IMU, ADS, etc) types and modes
      • Familiarity with a variety of tracker  types
      • Background in physics/rigid body dynamics
