Fire Watch/Safety Technician - Temporary

  • Monitor fire alarm system and coordinate responses from fire/safety officers, the security team, and on-site engineers
  • Through preventative work, protect human life and property from fire damage
  • Recognize fire crisis situations and initiate protective action in accordance with incident management best practices and SpaceX policies
  • Inspect buildings and offices and make recommendations for fire protection and general safety conditions
  • Help draft plans for the installation of fire protection systems for buildings and structures


This is a temporary position with SpaceX, for the length of time as stated, and is subject to change with minimal notice as business needs dictate.

  • LENGTH OF POSITION: 12 months; through August 2020
  • LOCATION: Cape Canaveral, FL
  • SHIFT: 1st shift


  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience monitoring equipment, people and property safe from potential fire hazards


  • OSHA-certified Fire Prevention Safety Training
  • 1+ years of experience working with fire detection systems
  • Ability to identify and implement efficient paths of action to finish the assigned work
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Previous knowledge and/or understanding of codes, rules, regulations and standards of electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals and reports
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments


  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
  • Ability to lift 20-30 lbs., standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying may be required to perform the functions of this position
  • Willing to travel for undetermined periods of time with limited notice
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed to support project milestones


  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
