Financial Specialist

Job Summary:

Performs the following functions: Educates patients on financial responsibility regarding their scheduled appointments. Ensures accuracy of registration data and review entire patients account to ensure all charges have been appropriately processed. Focuses on building direct communication and collaborative relationships with insurance companies and other departments.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Obtains precertification and preauthorization for patients upcoming treatments.
  • Assists patients with drug replacement or drug assistance programs.
  • Works back-end denials.
  • Assists patients with billing questions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Education:

    • Associate's Degree in accounting, finance or other related field may substitute for up to one year of experience of the stated experience OR a Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance or related field may substitute for up to two years of stated experience.
    • Knowledge of CPT/ICD-9 coding. Proficient in CTR.

      Certifications:

      • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Hematology and Oncology Coder (CHONC) preferred.

        Complexity of Work:

        • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
        • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

          Work Experience:

          • Minimum four years previous experience in collection or other related field in a health care institution.
          • Experience in processing medical insurance claims is helpful.

            Physical Requirements:

            • Manual dexterity required to extensively utilize a PC; requires individual to perform work while sitting for prolonged periods of time.
            • must have normal or corrected vision and ability to communicate verbally.

              Personal Protective Equipment:

              • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
