Job Summary: Unity Lab Services (ULS), a part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, provides integrated solutions with instrument and enterprise services to our customers. This Field Service Engineer is responsible for managing all aspects of field service support and customer relationship management. The successful candidate will provide complete services on laboratory equipment, including repairs, preventative maintenance, installation, and instrument qualifications. Our ideal candidate will be customer oriented and an advocate for Thermo Fisher Scientific.


Responsibilities:

  • Repair, install, and maintain a variety of laboratory equipment products including incubators, centrifuges, cold storage and other equipment as needed.
  • Complete documentation of all work performed within 24 hours of the call conclusion.
  • Establishes customer satisfaction through excellence in repair and support of customer products.
  • Comfortable with scheduling 100% of your own calls with the flexibility to change schedule for high priority cases.
  • Provides rapid, courteous, and knowledgeable responses to customers inquires.
  • Maintains communication with customer to ensure understanding of all aspects of the service event i.e. status, cost, scheduling, etc.
  • Completes thorough Preventative Maintenance (PM) service to assure peak uptime of customer equipment.
  • Full service customer advocate by managing all aspects of the service event.
  • Installation, demonstration and customer training of new equipment.
  • Actively promotes and sells services.
  • Supports the Quality System and Quality Policy.
  • Maintain tools and certified test equipment.
  • Complete all administrative duties on a daily, weekly, monthly or as needed basis. Including but not limited to time keeping, emails, PM scheduling, daily service records, customer follow ups, parts escalation, inventory management/returns, vehicle maintenance, mileage reports, expense reports, travel arrangements, training completion (instructor led & online), etc.


Qualifications:

  • Repair experience and background with electronic, electromechanical and/or mechanical equipment, Required
  • Understanding of basic test equipment such as DMM, tachometer, temperature devices, etc. Preferred
  • Previous repair experience for general laboratory equipment (incubators, ovens, centrifuges, etc.), Preferred
  • Ability to work independently diagnosing and troubleshooting with schematics, diagrams, service manuals and other technical documentation. Preferred.
  • Associates Degree in Electronics, Biomedical training, or equivalent education or experience. Preferred
  • Two or more years of hands-on experience as a field technician. Preferred
  • Ability to operate computers, smartphones and software. Desired
  • Strong electronic and/or mechanical background. Desired
  • Some networking experience a plus:
    • Site survey and setup
    • Hardwired switching
    • Receiver configuration and programming
    • TCP/IP Protocols
    • Multiple end points
    • Virtual server experience through Windows Server 2016 Rev II


Services and Product Sales:

  • Promotes Unity Lab Services to customers and provide business opportunity leads on a regular basis for instrument services, accessories, consumables, upgrades, and training.
  • Advises customer of new products, promotions and upgrades and passes opportunities to account representatives.
  • Keeps up to date on new product introductions, technologies, market changes, competitors’ products and new customer applications


Essential Functions:

  • Ability to lift 50 Lbs without assistance or 51 Lbs with assistance 15% of the time.
  • Ability to lift and carry 25-30 Lbs. continuously throughout the day.
  • Ability to bend, squat, stretch, and reach safely in confined spaces on a daily basis in a service function.
  • Ability to travel overnight at a minimum of 10%. Up to 50% may be required.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
