BNYMellon Risk & Compliance

Risk& Compliance is the second line of defense, responsible for overseeing andchallenging the first line of defenses management of risk. The majority ofemployees are part of the first line of defense, which is comprised ofbusinesses and business partner groups other than Risk, Compliance and InternalAudit. First line employees are responsible for owning the identification,understanding, and management of risk associated with their business,processes, services, or function.

Role description and opportunities

Thisideal candidate will drive a multi-year change management effort developingcapabilities and processes within Risk & Compliance. They will execute endto end planning and execution of the large scale, complex and global change programsin excess of $100 million. These programs will cover the full lifecycleand require collaboration with c-suite executives in as well as seniormanagement in other functions across the enterprise.

Keyresponsibilities include the following:

  • Use regulatory and consulting expertise to oversee a large portfolio of projects, including but not limited to non-financial risk, regulatory remediation, governance risk & control (GRC).
  • Accountable for business results. Business deliverables met, on budget, to high quality, on time and actually creating the value for the user.
  • Utilize knowledge of competitors products and ensures organization-wide compliance with current regulatory and legal obligations of locations managed.
  • Develop standard project process/implementation methods for the function.
  • Lead and motivate a team responsible for the delivery of quality business solutions within agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Meet with clients post-implementation to confirm satisfaction with services/products delivered, discuss lessons learned, and discuss potential for future business.
  • Innovatively problem solve and effectively attain buy-in from senior level staff, and executives within Change Management and cross-functionally to drive solutions forward.
  • Responsible for data, reporting, analytics, information solutions, and process engineering as part of portfolio.
  • Serve as an escalation point and handles escalated issues from the senior staff, other department leads, and the most complex clients.
  • Anticipate issues that may affect the achievement of functional goals and objectives and propose solutions.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal teams, suppliers and clients and utilizes the relationships to ensure project success and build opportunities for future business.
  • Consistently anticipate and manage client expectations while looking ahead to future possibilities and leads senior managers in translating the possibilities into actionable proposals/business plans.
  • Determine next steps based on reports from senior staff on project risks and issues.
  • Use existing relationships with clients to secure favorable results while ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Set functional timelines, budgets, strategy and policy.


A successful candidate should ideallyhave these qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. MBA highly preferred.
  • Superior analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and bring clients together driving successful results in a fast paced environment
  • Acts as a player and a coach.
  • Extensive experience working with complex, high quantity, often contradictory information.
  • Fully understand and influence the commercial environment based on own breadth of experience.
  • Highly Strategic; an innovative thinker with the ability to see emerging trends and the big picture, with equal ability in successfully driving projects from development to completion.
  • Financial Services experience specifically capital markets background.
  • Consulting background is highly preferred, as well as exposure to a complex regulatory environment.
  • Experience building out a non-financial risk program.
  • Proven experience managing and leading large teams.
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills
