The Head of Investment Risk Management is a key strategic position withthe ability to influence the firm's identification and management of InvestmentRisk. The Head of Investment Risk Management reports to the Chief Risk Officer. The Head of Investment Risk Management willbe responsible for the ongoing independent oversight and challenge ofday-to-day risk management activities, and process change risk assessments andrisk reporting for BNY Investment Management. Thisperson is also the primary corporate officer representing BNY Mellon with allregulatory agencies associated with these lines of business. This person willmanage a large and disperse team of global risk professionals within the parentcompany and the investment firms and wealth management business.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the establishment of the Investment Management Risk appetite statements, in alignment with the Company Risk Appetite Statement, and application of and adherence to the risk framework policies, processes, measures and limits
  • Leads the assessment, monitoring and reporting on investment risks inherent to business activities, including fiduciary, reputational, business and strategic risks
  • Advises on effective risk mitigation strategies and ensures implementation
  • Serves on Risk Management Committees and may advise or serve as Chair for boards and other committees to ensure their effectiveness; facilitates and encourages informed and constructive debate on key issues. May also lead enterprise wide risk governance projects
  • Serves as the approval point for processes implemented by Investment Management regarding accepting new business, preparing and maintaining standard documents and monitoring adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Establishes the chain of approval based on best practices and extensive industry experience
  • Advises on effective risk mitigation strategies and ensures implementation
  • Establishes protocols for determining whether business process and product changes are significant changes for Investment Management, which departments/businesses should review the change, the appropriate levels of approval for the change and how risk associated with the change will be assessed
  • Produces accurate and effective solutions and appropriately escalates issues to the Risk, Compliance and business line or legal entity management teams, as needed
  • Leads, recruits, directs, motivates and develops the global investment risk management team, maximizing their individual contribution, their professional growth and their ability to function effectively with their colleagues as a team and/or lead
  • Maintain and develop subject matter expertise and intellectual leadership within the investment risk function
  • Maintain familiarity with current and emerging regulation of investment risk and with regulatory expectations and obligations of the investment risk function


Qualifications

Skills/Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Masters degree (including but not limited to MBA) preferred
  • 15+ years of total work experience with at least 5-7 years in management preferred
  • Experience in asset management and wealth management risk is highly preferred
  • Proven experience building and maintaining strong relationships with business leaders and regulators.
  • Proven industry expert, with a track record of making decisions, leading consensus building and negotiating.
  • Ability to interact and influence executives at the highest levels in the organization
  • Experience with complex business structures within a matrixed reporting environment
  • Previous success executing change within global, complex business structures in a matrixed reporting environment
  • Proven industry expertise, with a track record of making decisions, leading consensus building, negotiating, and executing enterprise-wide risk programs
  • Proven experience building and maintaining strong relationships with business leaders and regulators
  • Experience managing a large number ofdiverse and often complex issues and/or programs, with demonstrated ability to effectively drive accountability and get results
  • Ability to analyze complex requirements and information determine appropriate actions, and to be appropriately resolute about appropriate actions if challenged
  • Proven leadership and management capabilities with success motivating staff to perform at a consistently high bar in a matrixed environment
