Job Summary

Serve as the facility’s EHS subject-matter expert.  Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of EHS-related regulatory requirements and how they impact other aspects of the business.  Communicate with all levels of the facility to create, explain, execute and influence policies, practices, or approaches.  Obtain direction from leadership within L3Harris and execute upon the initiatives of the Sector, Segment, and Corporation.  Establish the short-term and long-term measurable EHS goals for the organization in coordination with facility Senior Management and L3Harris leadership.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Monitor production, material handling, and engineering development processes/operations to ensure compliance with government, contractual, and Company environmental, health, and safety requirements.  Measure the continued effectivity of programs on a routine basis through internal audits, industrial hygiene monitoring, and other EHS-related tools.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for EHS-related regulatory inspections from regulatory agencies.
  • Focus on continuous improvement of EHS programs in processes, systems, or products.
  • Provide EHS-related input into new products, new processes, process changes, facility changes, and capital expenditures.  Develop and implement EHS practices and instructions in support of operational changes.  Establish safety standards and criteria for the facility.
  • Manage workload, including large and complex project initiatives of substantial importance, with minimal oversight or direction.
  • Communicate within and outside of the organization, including with customers or vendors.  Influence others to accept individual or team’s views or practices and changes to concepts, practices, and approaches. Communicates with leadership regarding matters of importance to the functional or business area. May conduct briefings with leaders.
  • Advise management on matters concerning environmental protection compliance requirements, environmental sustainability initiatives, and occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Establish and implement programs to reduce and eliminate injuries.  Actively participate in incident investigations to ensure the effectivity of corrective actions for the event and any systemic similarities.
  • Administer the facility’s Disability/Workers Compensation Program.
  • Oversee and manage budgetary elements of the EHS program.
  • Other related duties as assigned by Supervisor or Sector, Segment, and Corporate Leadership.

    Job Requirements

    Education and Experience:

    • Requires comprehensive knowledge and skills within a the EHS discipline that extends into other areas of the business. A Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, industrial engineering, environmental engineering, electrical engineering, EHS, or a similar field and minimum 9 years prior related experience. 


      • Strong technical understanding of occupational health and safety regulations and practices, with advanced knowledge in the areas of electrical safety and ergonomics.
      • Strong technical understanding of environmental regulations and practices, with advanced knowledge in the areas of plating and hazardous waste management.
      • Technical understanding of industrial hygiene practices and sampling methods.
      • Technical understanding of building and life safety codes.
      • Understanding on how to properly utilize and apply adult learning principles.
      • Understanding of environmental sustainability initiatives and practices.

        Additional Skills & Abilities:

        • Ability to influence with and without authority.
        • Ability to communicate technical and regulatory requirements to audiences with various levels of understanding and education. 
        • Provide guidance, coaching, and training to employees throughout the Company within area of expertise.
        • Engineer environmental and occupational safety hazards to an acceptable level.
        • Recognize potential hazards in processes, materials, equipment, and the facility.
        • Effectively balance operating requirements and safety controls.
        • Ability to develop methods, rules, and procedures to ensure a safe working environment that minimizes the incidence of industrial illness or injury.
        • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
        • Effective computer skills.
