Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry Level Environmental Scientist for employment in the Warrenville, IL office. AECOM is looking for an entry level Project Scientist to assist with environmental, compliance and safety related projects to support multiple rail clients. Although this is an entry level position, candidates must have the appropriate education and background to understand the theories and concepts being evaluated. As a Project Scientist, the candidate would conduct soil, groundwater and structure sampling and analysis activities. Work will cover a variety of disciplines including but not limited to environmental, biological, compliance, permitting and/or health and safety. All work will be done under the direction and oversight of senior management and tasks are expected to be done in a timely and organized manner. The candidate will be responsible for assessing and interpreting data in order to provide a deliverable on time and within budget.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducts field activities at various client sites throughout the Midwest region.

  • Reviews field documents and subcontractor submittals.

  • Oversight of subcontractors.

  • Generates reports from field activities.

  • Utilizes basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope.

  • Collects and enters data, and applies technical principles and theories.

  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Entry-level position; may not require previous experience.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + None or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to safely drive extended distances

  • U.S. citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., environmental science, soil science, agriculture, geology or any scientific related field)

  • 0 to 2 years of environmental experience

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

  • Excellent technical writing and organizational skills

  • Good working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications, including MS Word, and Excel

  • Proficient with technology

  • Background in the asbestos industry or industrial hygiene

  • Background in soil and groundwater sampling

  • Familiar with structural building components

  • GIS background
