AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry Level Environmental Engineer/Scientist for employment in the Portland, OR or Seattle, WA office.

This position is expected to begin in April 2021.

About DCSAEnvironment

With world class technical expertise, leading edge technology and innovative project delivery capability around the world, AECOMs global environmental practice helps industry and government meet their business goals to achieve compliance, reduce or eliminate risks and manage impacts. We provide advisory and technical services to help clients cleanup and close contaminated sites and surplus operational facilities and restore them for reuse, plan and permit new facilities, address critical climate change issues, restore habitats and water quality, protect natural and cultural resources, maintain compliance, and cost effectively manage residuals and wastes.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Operating the WWTP to meet the required discharge limits for routine influent and treatment conditions outlined in the NPDES Permit

  • Operating the WWTP in a safe and professional manner

  • Maintaining required training and certifications including e-RAILSAFE, Contractor Orientation, Roadway Worker Protection, and state requirements for private WWTP operators

  • Participating in client Wastewater Best Way program, Monthly WWTP Operator calls, and annual client WW Conference

  • Perform all inspections utilizing the client electronic asset management (EAM) system.

  • Perform routine cleaning of the IAF and API OWS associated with WWTP operations.

  • Coordinating and/or assisting with WWTP repairs, maintenance, and cleaning utilizing the EAM system

  • Read, understand, and follow published test methods and standard operating procedures, including company and client specific programs

  • Produce accurate and complete documentation of operation, inspections and compliance

  • Show initiative in maintaining and repairing equipment, ordering and organizing supplies and maintaining work area

  • Effectively communicate with site representatives regarding schedules and task requirements

  • Collect soil, water, and vapor samples using approved sampling plans and industry accepted methods. Document work with detailed field notes.

  • Coordination with and oversight from task and project managers, on-site subcontractors, and field staff

  • Office support including preparation of work plans, health and safety plans, and technical reports

  • Manage environmental data. Prepare tables and figures to present data

  • Perform other tasks assigned by project and task managers

  • Support WWTP operations at other client facilities under direction of staff as necessary

  • Receives and maintains required safety training including OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER Training with annual 8-hr refresher; client-specific training and regulatory specific training

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Geology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or equivalent

  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check.

  • Must be able to successfully complete initial and random screening requirements including drug, breathalyzer, urine and/or hair test

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record

  • Must be able to meet medical clearance requirements of an OSHA (HAZWOPER) medical surveillance physical exam

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework or experience providing knowledge relevant to stormwater pollution prevention planning, waste management, environmental site assessments, environmental site investigation and characterization, and environmental remediation

  • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in outdoor and indoor environments with uneven terrain, variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, dryness, moisture, noise, and chemicals; position requires frequent operation of vehicles; often standing/walking, work alone in isolated areas and lifting of 25-50 pounds; occasionally performing repetitive bending/stooping, power gripping/squeezing (hand tools, levers, etc.), climbing stairs, working around heavy, moving, dangerous equipment, performing keyboard/mouse operations, performing repetitive or fine hand movements, and lifting of 50 to over 75 pounds; rarely working with arms above shoulder level, working at heights, wearing fall protection equipment, and operating heavy, moving or dangerous equipment. Position includes wearing associated personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection, and fall protection

  • Knowledge of environmental sampling practices

  • Energetic and detail-oriented, with collaborative style and innovative approach

  • Aptitude for operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment

  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Ability to record data neatly, accurately, and legibly

  • Excellent attention to Health and Safety
