Position Overview:

In this position, you will partner with APOC’s suppliers and R&D teams to improve quality and reduce variation across the plastics and packaging portfolios, through the use of advance polymer science knowledge and statistical/fact based analytics.  You will drive sustainable corrective actions and preventative actions to meet critical quality attributes (CQA), and identify/explore new CQAs and controls to further improve product quality.  You will also be leading the qualification of new injection molding tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply advanced scientific knowledge, engineering knowledge, mathematics and ingenuity to complete complex assignments with little or no supervision.
  • Understand the business needs of the company and have a thorough understanding of customer and clinical needs as they relate to projects.
  • Lead and/or participate on cross-functional teams to support organizational goals.
  • Conceptualize complete solutions, create or coordinate the design solutions for novel or complex problems; explore multiple alternatives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) or independent technical expert (ITE) on a project’s technical matters; may interface with senior management, external firms or agencies, may coordinate technical matters between organizations.
  • Responsible for completing documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with business standards.
  • Participate on cross-functional teams to support organizational goals.
  • Understand and comply with applicable EHS policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining effectiveness of Quality System.
  • Other miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as may be required.

    Required Education and Experience

    • Minimum 8 years in an engineering role.
    • Bachelor’s Degree (Science, Engineering or equivalent) required.
    • Experience in two shot injection molding or polymer science preferred.
    • Strong working knowledge of polymer-based materials, manufacturing processes and applications.
    • Knowledge and experience in manufacturing process control with double shot injection molding.
    • Experience with polycarbonate, ABS, PETG, TPE, and polymer coatings for medical grade packaging.
    • Experience using Solidworks or equivalent CAD software
    • Solid understanding of technical drawings, interpretation of specification and tolerances
    • Ability to perform tolerance stack up analysis
    • Structured Problem solving, Statistical testing, Design of Experiments, fact based problem solving.
    • Some experience or exposure to a manufacturing environment is an asset.
    • Ability to work independently and in groups, ability to work cross-functionally.
    • Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills; critical thinking skills.
    • Ability or aptitude to use various types of databases and other computer software.
    • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills.
    • Ability or aptitude to provide solutions and contingency plans through the comprehensive review of alternatives.
    • Ability to quickly gain knowledge, understanding or skills and willingness to learn.
    • Trained or certified in Lean Six Sigma is an asset
    • 25% travel required
