Electronics Technician - Navigation

We are searching for an Electronics Technician - Navigation, at our -Newport News, VA, location.  

The Electronics Technician - Navigation position supports the Project Manager, AIT Supervisor and technical team members across individual contracts as they support the operations. 

You will demonstrate success by: 

  • Competing the following installation, troubleshooting, servicing and/or repairing responsibilities with supervision:
  • Operating and recording data from various types of test equipment to include, but not limited to an Oscilloscope, TDR, multimeter, tone generator and RF wattmeter.
  • Generating testing documentation.
  • Developing and maintaining one-line drawings and connection diagrams.
  • Writing test procedures with limited documentation.
  • Having a solid understanding of NMEA 0183 data to ensure accurate data is available at the equipment and how to troubleshoot NMEA 0183 data.
  • Building, troubleshooting, and repairing various 'N, TM and UM' type RF connectors, multi-pin connectors, RJ-45 connectors and RJ-11 connectors.
  • Installing and troubleshooting shipboard navigation, communication and power systems; locating and determining problems and corrective solutions to repair issues.
  • Performing installation of equipment, terminations, testing and commissioning.
  • Tracking daily work schedules.
  • Evaluating incoming equipment for reparability, and providing feedback or estimate to repair. Troubleshoot to component level.
  • Create wiring list from schematics or other provided documents.
  • Document and complete all required company, customer and OEM Service Work Orders.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills; must be able to work independently as well as part of a project team.
  • Must be able to lift 40lb, subject to prolonged standing and kneeling; ability to climb scaffolding and work in a shipyard environment.

    Qualifications: 

    • Must have an Associate's degree in Electronics technology or related field, High School diploma or GED. Formal education does not waive required qualifications and experience.
    • Must have three (3) to five (5) years of practical experience, to include electronics repair, maintenance, installation and checkout.
    • Must be able to accurately demonstrate and complete testing and troubleshooting responsibilities on shipboard navigation, communication and power equipment.
    • Read and interpret installation drawings and cable run sheets. Fabricate various connectors by soldering and/or crimping for navigation, communication and power equipment.
    • Plan cable runs throughout the vessel to equipment based off provided drawings and IEEE 45 standards. Run cables of various construction to include, but not limited to, Heliax cables, RF cables and Fiber Optic cables.
    • Terminate equipment in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specifications.
    • Must have thorough knowledgeable in Alternating Current and Direct Current (AC/DC) theory and industry standards for termination.
    • Knowledgeable in installation and updating software from various OEM's, and in integrating various sensor data into multiple types of bridge navigation.
    • Ability to work in a fast paced and deadline driven environment is necessary.
    • Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word and Microsoft Visio.
    • Position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
    • Must be able to obtain credentials to access military installation.
    • Must be able to obtain a valid U.S. Passport.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen

      Preferred Additional Skills:

      • Currently trained, licensed and/or certified for repairing, installing, configuring and supporting assets including but not limited to Radars, Navigation Equipment, Satellite Communications Equipment and Inter-Vessel Communication Systems.
      • Experience with Army Watercraft C4ISR systems. Formal electronics training from a Technical School Class A or B military school in electronics. Formal electronics training to include Installation Task, Soldering, Cable Dressing, Cable Tray, Conduit and Making/Repairing Connectors.
      • Possesses the following Federal Communications Commission (FCC) licenses; Global Maritime Distress Safety System (GMDSS) Operator and Maintainer license and Radiotelephone General Operator License with Radar Endorsement.
      • Active Secret Clearance.
