Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an Electrical Engineer III or IV to work in our Fort Mill / Indian Land, SC offices. This position requires a self-starter, who can work independently with limited supervision or guidance. This Electrical Engineer position is based in our Indian Land, SC office. Under the supervision of a Lead /Supervising Engineer, this position will offer you the opportunity to work in a project team environment working on modification projects for Nuclear, fossil and hydro generating stations, and High Voltage substations. You will be involved in power distribution designs and the preparation of specifications for the procurement of major electrical power equipment and related installation services needed to support other disciplines.

Work will include the following:

  • Support the project lead in coordinating systems design activities to ensure installation and operations will comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.

  • Prepare and review detailed calculations including electrical system analysis comprised of short circuit, voltage drop, arc flash and protective relay / coordination studies.

  • Interface with vendors to prepare materials and equipment purchase specifications for client recommendations.

  • Multi-discipline design assistance preparing and revising design drawings using AutoCAD or Microstation software. Drawings will be both dimensional (physical arrangement, piping isometrics, etc.) and non-dimensional (schematic, wiring, single line diagrams, P&IDs, etc.).

  • Provide general support to projects in development of modification packages, estimates, material take-offs, and document control.

  • Prepare project estimates and prepare scope of work documents.

  • There is the potential for you to travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs.

Minimum Requirements

Electrical Engineer III

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience in engineering/design of electrical power auxiliary systems for power plants or heavy industrial facilities or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills including technical writing skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and organize work in a multi-tasked environment.

  • Must be able to produce finished products with little or no editing by supervision. Presentations must be clear and concise and reflect the targeted audience.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools, including Word and Excel to prepare written reports and spreadsheets.

  • Due to the nature of this work, candidate must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Electrical Engineer IV

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering and 6 years of experience n engineering/design of electrical power auxiliary systems for power plants or heavy industrial facilities or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills including technical writing skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and organize work in a multi-tasked environment.

  • Must be able to produce finished products with little or no editing by supervision. Presentations must be clear and concise and reflect the targeted audience.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools, including Word and Excel to prepare written reports and spreadsheets.

  • Due to the nature of this work, candidate must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working with protective relays such as SEL-487E or similar is strongly preferred.

  • Experience with OTI-ETAP, SKM Power Tools or equivalent software for analysis of electrical power systems.

  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering in Power Systems

  • FE (EIT) Certification or Professional Engineer License

  • Experience working at an operating nuclear power plant is a plus.

  • Training and experience using CAD software to revise and/or develop technical drawings. Software tools shall be AutoCAD, Microstation or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead design of a broad scope of multiple small to medium scale complex projects - experience with electrical system design including medium and low voltage distribution systems (transformers, generators, motors), communication systems, and equipment selection.

  • Experience preparing electrical discipline calculations and equations including electric circuit calculations, 3-phase power and ampacity, impedance, sizing of conductors, calculation of losses, reactive power, verification of proper phase rotation, relaying calculations, short circuit calculations, and Arc Flash studies.

  • Experience and working knowledge with NERC Reliability Standards and protective relaying systems.

  • Experience developing protective relay and control settings applying principles and techniques of electrical power engineering.

  • Familiar with NFPA and IEEE Codes and Standards.
