We are expanding our Sunnyvale software team by building a brand new group of talented software engineers in our India Development Center and are seeking a Director, Software Engineering who will help us build this successful organization by hiring best in class talent. You will lead, manage, and inspire this group in developing software for Cepheid€™s molecular diagnostic platforms. You will articulate a vision and lead a highly skilled, diverse team through every aspect of software development lifecycle including cross-functional requirements assessment, design and developing, testing, and implementation of major software projects.

This position is for the Cepheid team located at Danaher India Development Center (IDC), Bangalore.

IDC is a research and development site with the vision of accelerating product roadmaps across various Danaher business segments. Started in 2014, the center hosts 500+ associates for multiple Danaher operating companies focused on Diagnostics, Life Science, Environmental and Applied Science. The operating companies includes Beckman Coulter, Radiometer, Leica Biosystems, Danaher Digital, Hach, Leica Microsystems, HemoCue, Videojet and Cepheid.

The workforce at the center comprises of various product engineering teams working on development of software and hardware pieces, part of cutting-edge products for Immunoassay, Chemistry, Hematology, Molecular diagnostics, Oncology, Neurosurgery and Water Quality. IDC has evolved as center of excellence for Cloud and data analytics, with significant contributions to the key informatics solutions. The product engineering teams consists of highly talented software & hardware engineers and development managers. The teams are supported by local Product managers, Quality & Regulatory experts and Intellectual property experts.

The teams at the center works in close coordination with other global R&D centers at US, France, Germany, Japan, Australia, Denmark and Sweden. Located at the center of Bangalore IT HUB,  IDC is housed at state of art world class facility measuring 120 K Sqft.

Description

In this role, you will report solid line to the Vice President Software Engineering, Cepheid Sunnyvale, with the primary responsibility to lead and manage group of engineers working in IDC on development of Cepheid€™s Product Software. You will provide leadership for an organization of 15 to 20 associates involving subordinate managers and individual contributors across software development, verification and DevOps. The teams use Agile software development methodology and are responsible for feature enhancements for Cepheid€™s entire range of GeneXpert platform software and firmware including our next generation platform.  The Software Engineering Manager will have full accountability for on-time project delivery from both business and technical perspectives. This role will require active coordination with cross functional teams at other Cepheid locations and effective management of multiple cross-program dependencies.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manages headcount, deliverables, schedules, and costs for multiple ongoing projects and programs, ensuring that resources are appropriately allocated and that goals, objectives, timelines, and budgets are met in accordance with program and organizational roadmaps.
  • Engages with program managers and stakeholders at other Cepheid sites, technical leaders and executives to communicate projects status, escalate issues, and guide and influence strategic decision-making
  • Proactively identifies opportunities for process improvement and cost reductions opportunities.
  • Provides overall people-care management for direct reports, including, hiring, setting and monitoring of annual performance plans, coaching, and career development; drives and fosters organization-wide performance standards, expectations, and practices to support ongoing team member and process development.
  • Enables technology and process innovation in team
  • Drives portfolio management, workforce planning and hiring activities
  • Actively keeps abreast of emerging trends and technology changes
  • Acts as an advisor to BU and site management on key strategy and execution decisions
  • Collaborates with a global ecosystem of peers and partners in meeting objectives
  • Actively involves and participates in IDC local initiatives
  • Ensure various sub project teams are staffed with qualified resources
  • Accountable to Cepheid€™s Engineering organization for the success of software development projects at IDC
  • Responsible for achievement of quality, process adherence and on time delivery goals for the projects
  • Identify and drive countermeasures in instances when project is overdue or exceeding budget
  • Establish and monitor use of tools for project tracking and management
  • Ensure compliance to all appropriate Quality Management Systems and company policies and procedures

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor€™s degree with 14+ years of experience OR
    • Master€™s/Doctoral degree with 12+ years of experience  Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline; or, equivalent combination of education and experience

      AND

      • 5+ years managing people
      • Advanced leadership skills including coaching, team building, conflict resolution, and management.
      • Advanced project management skills including time and risk management, resource prioritization, and project structuring.
      • Excellent interpersonal communication skills - verbal, written, and listening
      • Solid problem solving skills, attention to detail and critical thinking abilities. Demonstrated ability to strategically solve problems.
      • Action oriented with the ability to drive for results.
      • Leadership presence with ability to utilize organizational channels, experience and influencing skills to effectively negotiate and persuade others
      • FDA regulated environment experience.
      • Fast learner able to quickly become adept at using the Danaher Business System tool set.
      • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage team by influence in a matrix organization.
      • Readily accepts responsibility and accountability for project success and key decisions.
