The School of Nursing has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Director of Information Technology. Under general direction of the Assistant Dean of Technology, Learning and Innovation, the Director of Information Technology provides strategic leadership and operational management in all matters related to information technology in the UW School of Nursing.  The Director is responsible for infrastructure, staffing and services to meet the Schools current and emerging IT needs, including relevant applications of both current and emerging information technology that supports teaching and learning, research activities, administrative tasks, and community involvement.

The Director of Information Technology must be highly effective in working with individual partners, stakeholders and customers while providing leadership to their team that is both supportive and effective. SoN Information Technology currently includes both a Director and Assistant Director, as well as 5 full-time Professional and Classified staff, with additional temporary, part-time, and student roles. SoN Information Technologys current services provide infrastructure and systems administration, application development, help desk services, a/v conference room set-up and support, website services, technology consulting, computer purchasing, procurement and provisioning of systems and equipment used in support of media systems and equipment, deployment and administration of workgroup printers and copiers, a central library of computer equipment, and our online admissions system.

This position advises senior SoN leadership and other SoN stakeholders at all levels, while ensuring implementation of best practices and guidelines for all IT initiatives within the SoN. The IT Director interprets, maintains and implements UW policies and procedures, making recommendations and implementing organizational efficiencies throughout the SoN regarding complex IT issues. The Director must stay abreast of technology changes regarding maintenance and upgrades to UWSoN IT systems.  This position requires a commitment to client service, the ability to work collaboratively in a changing environment, and the skill to work with members of the University community (faculty, staff, and students) who have diverse technology skills. Support of facilities improvements and consulting on capital projects requires periodic contributions from both the IT Director and their staff.

The UWSoN is one if the nations top-ranked nursing schools in the country and a national and international leader in improving the health and well-being of individuals, families and communities through education, research and service. This position provides decision-support to senior leadership on important IT issues, represents the SoN with internal and external affiliate institutions, and demonstrates effective business judgment. This position provides a critical role in the enhancement of student education and technical support for UWSoN faculty and staff. The Director assures that UWSoN faculty and staff technological needs are met and provides excellent client services and support, maintains maximum uptime, and provides a secure and friendly environment that is conducive to advancing education. This position will play a key role in supporting the on-going mission and strategic plan of the School of Nursing, ensuring that UWSoN initiatives are aligned with those designated and performed by UW-IT.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Personnel Management, Communication, Resource Alignment, Budgeting & Financial Management, Contracts & Commitments, Professional Development of Staff, Strategic & Emerging Issues

Leadership & Communication

Develop strategic IT plans, including improvements and new initiatives.

Communicate IT services, issues, needs, and/or recommendations to the UWSoN leadership, the School at-large, and to external stakeholders.

Collaborate with other IT stakeholders within the SON, across campus, and at other academic institutions to establish IT best practices, formulate policies, and strengthen client relationships.

Remain current with developments in information technology and emerging technologies.

Apply knowledge of the UW and SoN to continually improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization; furnish decision makers with well-researched solutions to continual and non-recurring challenges facing the organization.


Management & Operations

Supervise and manage information technology staff which includes hiring, development, team building, annual performance evaluations, and corrective action as needed.

Develop and manage the SoN IT budgets, monitor expenditures, and negotiate contracts and related security and privacy agreements. Provide estimates and invoice customers of production services.

Oversee administrative and policy tasks related to the planning, acquisition and distribution of computing equipment and the rendering of services related to computing.

Direct desktop support, hardware maintenance, development, database support, and web development, faculty, staff, and student computing need support, and support systems for video conferencing, project management and other school needs.

Ensure success of services and technology projects supporting the administrative, instructional and research needs of the School.

Direct the support and maintenance of the SoN website, as well as a number of ancillary websites representing SoN research centers, units and other stakeholders, including training and consultation.

Oversee operational computing services for the School, including installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all of the School's computing systems.

Oversee administration and maintenance of servers, software updates, backups, and network security by technical support staff and ensure appropriate compliance.

Ensure the SoNs computing and data environments are configured to meet or exceed UW Security Standards.

Develop Help Desk standards, policies, practices, and procedures necessary to ensure the highest level of customer service for SoN faculty, staff, and students.

Perform other duties as required to support the ongoing mission and strategic plans of the School.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

MCSE or equivalent certification

8 years or more experience in delivering and managing information technology services in a complex environment.  At least 2-5+ of those years in management experience.

Ability to work independently with a high degree of integrity, reliability, accuracy and productivity

A demonstrated commitment to supportive and effective team leadership.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to clearly explain technology to administrative and non-technical audiences.

Demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity and ability to develop working relationships with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.

?Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.

DESIRED:

Leadership experience in a higher-education environment.

A record of driving service improvement and technology upgrades aligned with organizational goals.

Demonstrated experience conducting training/coaching, supporting team development and/or addressing challenging personnel issues.

Experience consulting on capital projects, wiring and infrastructure initiatives, construction and renovations.


Condition of Employment:

Appointment to this position is contingent upon obtaining satisfactory results from a criminal background check.

Typically a 40 hour per week position, 5 days per week in a standard office environment.

Schedule flexibility and extra hours (including evenings and weekends) may occasionally be required.
