Director, Labor and Employee Relations

This is position is responsible for, among other items, managing the labor relations activities of the Company (both in collective bargaining and union avoidance) and assisting Human Resources and Operations leaders in all areas of employee relations. More broadly, the person in this position will champion the interests of employees with the goal of high job satisfaction. To this end, this position will work hand-in-hand with corporate and regional leadership to develop and rollout programs that inspire and motivate our employees and will develop compelling employee communications in a form and fashion that recognize our employees are consumers, not just employees. Develop, implement, and deliver union-related training and employee retention programs on a Company-wide basis Coordinate responses to union organizing campaigns Negotiate collective bargaining agreements, some as first chair and some as second chair, depending on size and complexity Provide day-to-day labor and employment advice to internal clients Manage arbitration and other union contract matters; direct internal or outside legal counsel as appropriate If direct report positions are listed below, the following responsibilities will be performed in accordance with guidelines, policies and procedures and applicable laws. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. At least seven years of employee and labor relations experience Experience with administration and first chair negotiation of collective bargaining agreements Experience with union organizing campaigns, union training, and NLRB elections Extensive knowledge of labor and employment laws, including the NLRA, Title VII, FMLA, ADA and FLSA Experience dealing with state and federal government agencies Experience with reductions in force and workforce restructuring activities Experience interpreting complex human resources guidelines, codes, regulations, policies and procedures, including state and federal laws, and a demonstrated track record of effective problem analysis and resolution Experience creating and delivering positive employee relations programs, union avoidance, and training initiatives Include minimum education, technical training, and/or experience preferred to perform the job. Undergraduate degree required Advance degree preferred (preferably in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Employment/Labor Law, and/or a related field) Include minimum certification required to perform the job.
