Harborview Medical Center has an outstanding opportunity for a DIRECTOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES AND PARKING SERVICES.

The Director of Environmental Services and Parking Services is responsible for the overall leadership of housekeeping, linen, waste processing and removal, and parking services for the Harborview Medical Center campus. This position is responsible for planning and directing all activities of the department, including policy and procedure development, strategic planning, budget planning, customer service excellence, and staff training and development. This individual will serve a key role in patient and staff safety.

Environmental Services and Parking Services department employs over 200 FTEs, 7 of which directly report to the Director.  The Director will also establish standards, lead, plan, and direct the activities of services that exceed an annual $14M dollars budget.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION/MANAGEMENT:
  • Manage and administer all operational aspects to provide quality environmental care and parking services
  • Develops and maintains policies and procedures for the departments, and as appropriate, for the hospital-wide administrative policy manual
  • Develops an effective quality assurance program for both core operations and the patient care centers utilizing
  • Delegates assignments to appropriate individuals to ensure quantitative goals are met or exceeded
  • Works to promote Patients are First and positive guest relations
  • Ensures safety and sanitation in facilities; ensures Linen Services support high quality patient outcomes

  • STRATEGIC PLANNING:
  • Performs critical thinking affecting the department’s and medical center’s business mission, key success factors, and strategic direction
  • Considers the department’s operating environment, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to identify strategic imperatives and suggest ways to improve alignment
  • Works proactively to identify potential areas of concern and takes corrective action to prevent harm or injury

  • FINANCIAL AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT:
  • Develops strategies, metrics, and controls to optimize use of labor and other resources

  • PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT:
  • Manage recruitment and selection of qualified applicants, which includes screening and interviewing
  • Hire, orient, complete performance evaluations, and other personnel actions
  • Performs and submits reports for annual performance reviews and recommendations for merit increases
  • Maintains knowledge of union contracts
  • Promotes and supports a high functioning environment that fosters continual learning and professional development

  • SAFETY AND HEALTH:
  • Manages infection control program in tandem with the Infection Control Manager
  • Provides input into medical center programs that address safety and health, and directs operations to meet standards
  • Maintains effective response protocols for emergencies

  • SERVICE EXCELLENCE:
  • Monitors and maintains department activities within regulatory requirements
  • Works collaboratively with other departments and hospital staff to anticipate needs, correct issues, and communicate important information
  • Participates as a team player and considers the facilitate wide needs, as well as specific departmental needs


  • REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration or equivalent
  • 5 years of experience with progressive responsibility including position as director at a medical center with over 300 beds
  • Demonstrated leadership and program management skills related to the defined tasks
  •  
    Competitive candidates will have experience with:

  • DESIRED:
  • Master’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration or equivalent
  • Advanced training or experience with best practices and technical information related to cleaning, monitoring tools, metrics, and productivity
  • CQI principles for quality improvement and quality assurance development
