Director, Data Management and Strategy

As a Director in Capital One Canadas Data Management and Governance team you will lead a team that applies their analytical, data management, and process management skills to support the development and adoption of the Data Management Strategy. You and your team will collaborate with the Data Science team and lines of business to reduce data risk and to enable the secure and efficient use of data assets.

You will leverage your analytical skills to identify and diagnose data risks. Your data management skills will enable the mitigation and prevention of future risk events. By continuously improving on our data management practices, you will drive a well-managed and reliable data ecosystem as well as robust and scalable business intelligence.

You and your team will sit at the intersection of risk management and data consulting, offering services to various business teams in order to ensure best practices in data access, usage, and reporting. Risk Managers in the Data Management and Governance team are highly motivated risk and data management professionals with excellent organization, problem-solving, influence and communication skills. These individuals have the opportunity to work with and implement innovative solutions and processes to extract value from our data while identifying and mitigating data risks across the lines of business within Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify opportunities and work with business stakeholders and partners to embed data management practices into our daily operations and business processes across the organization
  • Use analytical skills to conduct Risk Process Assessment and Improvement, Data Process Design & Process Excellence
  • Perform gap assessments and create recommendations to ensure progress towards organizational adoption of data management transformation
  • Collaborate within Enterprise Data Management and with our partners on areas of metadata management, data quality management and data stewardship functions
  • Manage a team to deliver on data management goals and to enable data usage and reporting for the business
  • Work with partners to improve adoption and user experience of data management tools in emerging platforms

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in a quantitative field
  • At least 4 years experience in people management
  • At least 4 years experience with data reporting
  • At least 5 years experience with relational databases and programming in SQL
  • At least 5 years of experience in data management practices and processes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree
  • Ability to effectively navigate a large organization and coordinate/influence multiple groups across lines of business
  • Knowledge of AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, etc.)
  • Six Sigma certification OR Lean certification OR Agile Coach certification
  • 5+ years experience in Business Intelligence
  • 5+ years of experience in Risk Management
