The Washington National Primate Center has an outstanding opportunity for a Database Administrator.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide the appropriate environment to support outstanding biomedical research directed towards significant human health issues and nonhuman primate health and biology.  In conjunction with our Mission Statement, these values link this position to our purpose as a Center:

Under the general direction of the Washington National Primate Research Center (WaNPRC) Associate Director, Finance & Administration, this position is responsible for the performance, integrity, development, and maintenance of the Center's information systems' databases. The successful candidate will be familiar with Oracle database development, automation, documentation, scripting, PL/SQL programming, ETL processing, and backup and recovery. This position requires strong SQL, PL/SQL development and tuning skills with a solid understanding of OLTP systems, perform tasks related to full software development life-cycle, which includes planning, analyzing requirements, designing solutions using Oracle 11g/12c, SQL, PL/SQL packages, stored procedures, functions, SQL Scripts, SQL*Loader.

Design and document database architecture
Assess malfunctions of hardware and/or software applications for the purpose of determining appropriate actions to maintain computer, network, and database operations
Build database schemas, tables, views, procedures and permissions
Create, test, and execute data management solutions
Develop database utilities and automated reporting
Analyze and sustain capacity and performance requirements
Monitor systems and platforms for availability
Oversee backup, replication and failover
Perform maintenance operations on Oracle servers and databases, and information systems for the purpose of ensuring efficient program operations
Perform database backups and restorations, and recover corrupted databases
Evaluate and recommend new database technologies
Implement and maintain database security and encryption
Develop, manage and test database and information system backup and recovery plans
Develop standards and policies for data entry, and ensure compliance
Prepare written materials for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written  reference, and/or conveying information
Prepare and distribute reports
PL/SQL programming must follow Industry coding standards
Other related duties, as assigned

Bachelor Degree in Business or Computer Science or related field
Three to four years experience
Experience working with Oracle 11g/12c
Development skills must include sound knowledge and experience in Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, RMAN, Data Pump
Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications with an emphasis on database and spreadsheet applications
Intermediate knowledge in hardware and networking
Proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Ability to adapt to varied roles and job responsibilities and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability using a life cycle management process for implementation of changes in technology
Demonstrated ability to excel both independently and as a team member in a lively, collaborative environment
Excellent written and verbal communications skills with a demonstrated ability to make difficult concepts easy to understand

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Experience in Microsoft SQL Server 2008+
Experience in Microsoft Server administration
Experience in Microsoft Windows System Administration
Advance knowledge in hardware and networking
Experience in an academic environment
