UW-IT is the central IT organization for the University of Washington, providing technology solutions to all three campuses, UW medical centers and global research operations. UW-IT collaborates with University partners to advance teaching, learning, innovation and discovery at the UW. UW-IT is currently looking for a Solution Architect who will support the UW-IT work on Finance Transformation, the Universitys large-scale project to modernize the its finance operations, business systems and processes. The position is a role in the newly established UW-IT FT program (ITF).

The University of Washington, IT Finance Program (ITF) has an excellent opportunity for a Data Architect 2 who is a systems and process-minded individual interested in learning more about university financial planning and the academic business model. Reporting to the Manager of Data Architecture, the Data Architect position is a hands-on opportunity focused on assisting the Manager of Data Architecture in facilitating a change of culture away from customized, manual data-manipulation towards standardization, automation and simplicity with an emphasis on exposing and resolving data quality issues and business process problems rather than enabling them. The position incumbent will accomplish this task by providing support and/or instruction to ITF analysts on how best to leverage existing data sources and aid the Manager of Data Architecture in determining when new data sources need to be developed. This will all culminate in their production or facilitation of the delivery of solution artifacts including business process diagrams, concept and physical data models, Database Design/ETL Documentation, Standard Operating Procedures, Lineage, Data Definitions and other relevant metadata.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of four years' experience with data architecture strategy, design, and development.
  • Experience with data management activities and concepts including an understanding of best practices for enterprise data modeling and management.
  • Experience designing complex integrations with a focus on data modeling and data engineering.
  • Ability to lead the implementation of data-centric application development projects from beginning to end.
  • Experience in data governance capabilities, policy, process, and procedures.
  • Excellent time and priority management ability.
  • Excellent problem-solving/analytical abilities.
  • Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.

    DESIRED:
  • Experience working in a Scrum-Agile environment.
  • Exposure to the Workday suite of applications/modules.
  • Experience with Workday data model, security, integrations and data load capabilities.
  • Experience using Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) successfully to deliver on the unit and organizational goals.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
    Work in an open office environment and contribute to collaborative team work focused on problem-solving. Daily interactions with other team members, subject matter experts and stakeholders at all levels of the organization. While the general working hours are within Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., this position will, on occasion, need to adjust hours to accommodate the business needs and deadlines.

    This position on the Finance Transformation Project is temporarily funded; continued employment is contingent on ongoing funding and performance.
