The mission of University of Washington Medicine is to improve the health of the public by advancing medical knowledge, providing outstanding primary and specialty care to the people of the region, and preparing tomorrows physicians, scientists and other health professionals.  UW Medicine owns or operates the following: Harborview Medical Center, Valley Medical Center, UW Medical Center (UWMC), a network of UW Medicine Neighborhood Clinics that provide primary care, UW Physicians, UW School of Medicine, Airlift Northwest, and other owned, operated, or affiliated entities as appropriate. In addition, UW Medicine shares in the ownership and governance of Childrens University Medical Group and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance a partnership among UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research, and Seattle Childrens.

UW Medicine Supply Chain Management has an excellent opportunity for a full time, Data Analytics Manager.

The Data Analytics Manager supervises a team of Senior Computer Specialists who are responsible for the development, design and administration of reporting, and analytics for UW Medicine Supply Chain Management (SCM).  The Data Analytics/ Reporting Manager develops and maintains the business intelligence reporting frameworks and tools.; works cross-functionally with various business owners to determine and meet their reporting and analytics needs. This person must ensure that the SCM Leadership Team and end users have the necessary data and information for ongoing daily operations within the division.


Reporting/Analytics Design and Development
  • Lead the design and development of analytical projects through the use of data analytics and reporting tools, including ad hoc reporting, self-service data visualization, and KPI dashboards through the use of Reporting / Analytical Tools (e.g. Spotfire, Tableau, SSRS, Excel)
  • Partner with the UW Medicine ITS and other technology teams to deliver a stable and highly available infrastructure platform for publishing, distribution, and access of reporting / analytical tools.
  • Plan and implement the overall analytics and business intelligence strategies. Develop SQL queries, views or stored procedures for more complex reporting needs, especially if report involves data extracts from different systems, i.e. HEMM, HSM, EPIC, HEFM, MPOUS
  • Interface directly with the multidisciplinary departments to perform current and future state workflow analysis.  The larger groups will primarily be Operating Room and Cath Lab at all the UW Medicine entities, including Northwest Hospital, Valley Medical Center, etc. Translate into optimal process and application integration design and in content for operationalizing at the business unit level.  Currently there are approximately 2100 users at UW Medicine for Harborview and UW Medical Center. And the other entities will need to be integrated with the SCMIS/HEMM.
  • Facilitate Data Integrations and Data Engineering activities to create enduring, effective, and reliable data sources
  • Architect the Supply Chain Data Repositories to support minimal rework, consistency, and clarity
  • Identify and Implement Master Data Management strategies for maintaining transparency, communication, and understanding of data throughout the development lifecycle.

    Project Lead/Requirements
  • Work with business process owners to identify information and reporting needs; primary owners include the SCM Leadership team, Value Analysis Team, Surgical Services for all four UW Medicine entities
  • Partners with external partners (Vizient, Gartner, Medline, GHX, etc.) by providing data needed for its supply chain business intelligence tool, Spendlink,, Operational Database (ODB) to support UW Medicines strategic sourcing decisions
  • Lead complex cross-functional project teams.

    Personnel Management
  • Manage Data Analytics staff and infrastructure; responsible for the recruitment, interview/ selection process, coordination of training, evaluation and corrective action of staff
  • Lead, direct and motivate diverse workers within a team-based assignment; effectively managing change in the workplace.
  • Assist the Data Analytics staff; conduct training sessions for the team members and new members in the team; solve critical issues of the system which the less-experienced Data Analytcs staff could not solve
  • Work in a high-volume environment where great emphasis is placed on customer service and creative problem-solving skills

    Coordination of Supply Chain Reporting/Analytic Activities
  • Work with UW Medicine Supply Chain Management and department leaders of the SCMIS user groups from Finance, Operating Room, Cath Lab/Angio to coordinate Supply Chain reporting activities, and identify training needs for reports and analytics deployed
  • Apply change management principles during the design and publication of new business intelligence visualizations; assist staff in making the transition from current to newly published analytics
  • Coordinate with non-SCMIS department staff to:identify and prioritize, data and reporting needs and facilitate ad-hoc / self-service reporting models
  • Lead or participate in large scale management of change at the department level, entity level, and health system wide level.
  • Lead or participate in development of communication strategies, including lessons learned, best practices, technical issues, and changes to SCMIS/HEMM.

    Documentation and Manage Tasks
  • Participate in all activities involved with system implementation and system upgrades including planning, software testing, user training, cutover tasks and rollout procedures
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain Informatics Application Support Manager and Application support team in testing new reports and analytics for validation, accuracy and usability; create test plans and scripts for system and user acceptance testing
  • Document system and business requirements; document customer procedures and policies for use of SCMIS and HEMM
  • Identify and implement performance metrics to continuously improve people, process, and technology.
  • Sharepoint development / maintenance support
  • Other projects as needed / identified

    Problem Resolution
  • Coordinate / Secure resources from appropriate UW Medicine entities and project leaders for project or problem resolution
  • Work with SCMIS Application Support for resolution of custom reporting applications / analytics developed in-house.
  • Support and coordinate help desk tickets and troubleshooting (through e-mail or other methods).

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Computer Information Systems or equivalent.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in healthcare Supply Chain Management
  • Working experience with McKesson ERP applications, specifically HEMM, HEFM, Contract Manager, Horizon Supply Source (HSS), HSM, MPOUS (Point-of-Use), Supply Tracking, Horizon Tray and Instrument Manager, including the integration and interface software between said systems
  • Experience with relational database design and structure; SQL programming; SQL Server Reports design and development;
  • Knowledge of the EPIC system and the EPIC work queue process.
  • Experience with Software Development Life Cycle processes and tools; Agile, Waterfall
  • Experience with Analytical Tools; Tableau, SSRS, and Spotfire

    An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.

  • Knowledge of PacTrac and Supply Chain barcoding applications
  • Knowledge of Global Healthcare Exchange (GHX) E-commerce applications
  • Experience with EDI and all the EDI transaction sets
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Database applications; SQL Server, SSRS, Teams, and Sharepoint.
