UW Medical Center - Northwest has an outstanding opportunity for a PER DIEM VARIABLE SHIFT CT TECHNOLOGIST.  Under the direction of a radiologist, the CT Technologist performs diagnostic computerized tomography examinations accurately, independently, and efficiently.


1. Prepares patient and independently performs CT exams & procedures, includes but is not limited to:
Using a professional, ethical, and caring demeanor, prepares and informs patients of exam procedure.
Identifies patients properly using prescribed method.
Verifies patient clinical history prior to exam.
Transfers and positions patient safely and properly for examination.
Observes and monitors patients condition and reactions to exam.
Safety: Provides protection for patient, self, and other staff in accordance with prescribed safety standards and protective devices. Uses proper sterile technique.
Performs venipunctures; assists in administration of contrast media.
Independently performs assigned exams and procedures in accordance with established protocols and standards.  Demonstrates ability to perform the entire variety of technical procedures expected of a CT Technologist.
Produces technically acceptable CT exams in accordance with departmental procedures. Selects proper technical factors.  Reviews and evaluates CT images to determine that they are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes. 
Provides Radiologists with the requested information for each exam; assists Radiologists with problem-solving.
Completes daily work in a timely fashion within exam time-window.
Performs quality assurance checks on equipment and processes per department policies. Investigates and informs supervisor of any quality issues or problems.
Assists supervisor to establish, update, and monitor protocols.

2. Operates, troubleshoots, maintains equipment, includes but is not limited to:
Operates CT equipment according to departmental procedures. Adjusts image parameters as specified for the exam. 
Uses systems effectively to evaluate and improve image quality.
Performs scheduled maintenance on CT equipment and troubleshoots problems. 
Provides equipment vendor/contractor and/or supervisor with timely notification and documentation of equipment issues.

3. Documentation, includes but is not limited to:
Uses RIS/PACS effectively to input/order/edit/cancel exams.
Completes required paperwork and records.  Accurately inputs exam orders, patient data, patient charges, and prepares reports. 
Effectively uses the computer and NWH software applications to access information.
Provides appropriate documentation to the radiologists.

4. Coordinates and optimizes customer service and workflow, includes but is not limited to:
Continually evaluates patient flow and work assignments, makes necessary adjustments, and prioritizes work effectively.
Exhibits excellent customer service skills with patients, physician office staff, coworkers, management, vendors, etc.
In order to provide a high level of customer service and necessary coverage, all staff are required to answer phones; assist in other areas (such as order entry, image library, scheduling, patient transport); work weekends, other shifts, holidays or take call; and help co-workers with workload and projects.

5. Maintains environment, includes but is not limited to:
Sets up exam rooms, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are ready. 
Inventories supplies and linens. Restocks rooms as needed.
Cleans and tidies exam rooms, patient holding rooms, wait rooms, etc. 

6. Training and Collaboration, includes but is not limited to:
Assists with training and mentoring new personnel and students.
Prepares and presents in-service education programs if assigned.
Attends staff meetings and required inservices.
Participates in departmental goals and performance improvement projects.


Education Background
1. High school diploma or GED equivalent. 
2. Satisfactory completion of formal specific training in an AMA-approved Radiology Technology program.
3. Satisfactory completion of a formal cross sectional anatomy class and a formal CT instrumentation class (must complete classes within 2 years of hire).
4. Requires completion of NWH (in-house) venipuncture training before contrast injections are performed.

Licensure, Registration, Certification
1. Requires certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R). OR: board eligible graduate from an accredited institution.  Certification required within 3 months of hire.
2. Requires licensure with the State of Washington.
3. Advanced Registry in the modality within 12 months of hire date
4. CPR or BLS is required, must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
5. Requires 24 CME credits every two years.
6. Requires completion of NWH (in-house) venipuncture certification before contrast injections are performed.

Special Training/Skills
1. Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on assigned unit/department.
2. Demonstrated venipuncture skills for administration of ionic and non ionic contrast material.
3. Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and MRI physics and principles.

Work Experience
1. Minimum of 1 year radiology experience, preferably in an acute care hospital environment preferred.
2. Prior CT experience preferred.
