US CCBs In-Business Operational Risk & Controls (IBRC) organization drives consistency across US CCB for addressing Operational Risk and Control issues. US CCB IBRC fosters a culture of control and customer centricity and accountability by leading efforts to identify, anticipate and mitigate regulatory, reputational, and operational risks.

Roles in the operational risk and controls space are critical to managing a safe and sound business practices. The primary function of IBRC is to anticipate, identify and mitigate non-credit risks, including operational, reputational and performance risks, that could impact business objectives, and to minimize control breaks, poor audit/exam results and operational risk events and losses. IBRC staff work with the business to determine appropriate mitigants to key risks, including advising them on how to design appropriate controls through a globally consistent MCA, and in overseeing the implementation of various elements of the businesss overarching Risk Appetite Framework. The IBRC team also helps to instill a robust risk and controls culture throughout the business through a strong issues and audit/exam management discipline.

Key requirements for the role, include:

  • Manage oversight of key control programs for US CCB, including but not limited to Business Continuity, Records Management, Information Security and End User Computing
  • Liaise with Independent Compliance Risk Management (ICRM), Operational Risk Management (ORM), Citi Security and Investigative Services (CSIS), Information Technology (IT) and other SMEs to strengthen US CCBs control program
  • Analyze critical requirements of underlying program policies to identify gaps and mitigate risk for US CCB
  • Analyze Activity, Risk, Control and Monitoring (ARCM) content for US CCB Assessment Units (AUs) to determine effective controls, monitoring and testing of key control programs
  • Work closely with partners across all products, segments and functions to ensure compliance to drive consistency of control programs within US CCB
  • Interface with US CCB seniors and control partners via preparation for and facilitation of US and Global CCB key risk and control committees, including BRCC
  • Make recommendations to automate/digitize monitoring of adherence to control program policies utilizing data retrievals and other techniques
  • Identify changes in business strategy, market conditions, industry trends, regulatory environment, regional or country macro-economic factors, etc. which may lead to increased risk, and recommend enhancements to process controls to address them
  • Assist in the development of CCBs communications on key risk topics and initiatives, with a focus on key control programs
  • Develop relevant MIS for senior level reporting of control program effectiveness

Experience/Skills Required:

  • 5+ years of experience in Financial Services; Bachelor degree, Masters preferred
  • Familiarity with the Managers Control Self-Assessment (MCA) process and CitiRisk & Controls (CRC) system
  • Understanding of the CCB business and operating model
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and experience
  • Successful experience of operating within a multi-disciplined function and juggling competing priorities
  • Strong relationship/partnership skills, with the ability to unite individuals from different departments, functions, geographies or backgrounds
  • Active listening, influencing and negotiating skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proven presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complex analytical ideas in a way that is understandable to a layperson
  • Forward-compatible mindset, with the desire to leverage technology to improve controls and monitoring
  • Intellectually curious and analytical
  • Ability to balance policy requirements with cost and client experience
  • Background in Operational risk or Credit risk
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong Excel & PowerPoint skills
