Job description

We are seeking an experienced Commercial IT lawyer to work in our Office of General Counsel commercial contracting team and to support the continued growth of our UK business, primarily in the consulting, IT, and managed services space. Our UK technology practice has grown significantly over the past few years and we anticipate this continuing and increasing as we move out of the current pandemic and beyond.

You will have significant relevant experience in providing commercial legal advice, either within an in-house environment or within law firms, ideally working with clients similar to PwC or its competitors. You will also have excellent communication skills, the ability to build strong relationships and the capability to determine strategy and influence negotiations in an innovative business environment.

The work is demanding, the deals are varied, and no day will be the same. You will be able to assimilate information quickly, get to the heart of a deal and advise the business not just on the legal and commercial aspects of any given deal, but on the project as a whole.

You will work closely with our bid teams and our engagement delivery teams, you will have direct access to our clients and their legal teams and you will act as the face of PwC in transactions. The existing commercial contracts team is highly valued by the business and we are very much seen as business enablers.

Our UK in-house legal team of nearly 50 lawyers is an experienced, well established and supportive group of professionals, who are highly regarded by and well networked to the business, and who have strong relationships with a wide range of senior professionals in the organisation, including at Executive Board level.

Our commercial team is split between two hubs, one in London and the other in Birmingham. This role will be based in our head office at 1 Embankment Place, London. Our team has been working remotely for the past year and going forwards we anticipate a hybrid way of working split between office, home and client sites.

Key requirements for the role:

· Detailed knowledge of English Law, at least 10 years’ PQE (or equivalent) in a commercial team;

· Broad experience of advising on IT implementation contracts with some exposure to managed service, outsourcing and other commercial and IT related (software licenses and SaaS) contracts;

· Excellent drafting skills;

· Ability to handle complex negotiations using sound judgment to ensure that the firm’s best interests are served;

· Ability to gain a full appreciation of the wider reputational, commercial and business aspects of each deal;

· Ability to adapt and to be open minded and innovative in your thinking;

· Sound judgment and well-developed influencing skills, together with the confidence to work with senior management across the business; and

· An ability to build strong relationships and become a trusted advisor to the business.

Not the role for you?

Did you know PwC offer flexible contract arrangements as well as contingent work (ie temporary or day rate contracting)?

The skills we look for in future employees

All our people need to demonstrate the skills and behaviours that support us in delivering our business strategy. This is important to the work we do for our business, and our clients. These skills and behaviours make up our global leadership framework, ‘The PwC Professional’ and are made up of five core attributes; whole leadership, technical capabilities, business acumen, global acumen and relationships.
