Position Overview:

As technical member of the field team within an assigned geography (Ontario and Western Canada), this position is responsible for providing technical clinical expertise to colleagues, and current or potential customers. Main focus on Physiology – Fractional Flow reserve (FFR) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), but also on Abbott Vascular’s other coronary products such as Drug Eluting Stents, Guidewires and Balloons. This position works in the cardiac cath lab supporting physicians, nurses and techs to use these technologies live during procedures. Confidence and clinical acumen is a must. 


  • Provides technical services, training, and guidance to current or potential customers.
  • Responsible for knowledge of Coronary products, clinical uses and abilities.
  • As part of the Canada Coronary team, provides input to the development of sales/ marketing tactics.
  •  Provides educational support and technical expertise/guidance to internal colleagues as well as handle trainings to the Sales Team, mainly to new comers at Abbott Vascular..
  • Knowledge of other Abbott Vascular products in the Cardiovascular Division (CV).
  • Staying apprised of the latest clinical trial and technology developments for coronary products, particularly, Stents, Physiology and OCT. 
  • Clinical Specialist will develop a personal education curriculum.  + 5% of time should be devoted to studying the latest clinical updates on Physiology; OCT; Complex PCI; CTOs
  • Uses technical expertise to identify customer training and service needs with the goal of increasing customer usage of all product lines.
  • In collaboration with the Product Manager, works with potential customers to educate them on Abbott Vascular products, leading to increase of product usage in current accounts.
  • Ability to identify and develop to become an indispensable resource for teams working in Cath Labs.
  • Integrate with the nurses/ techs at the hospital, and become a clinical resource for accounts using Physiology/OCT. Scrub-in for cases to support effective use of Physiology/OCT technologies
  • Operate the CRM (One Force customer relationship management) system and ensure information is available with the company on a timely and accurate manner.
  • Accountable for knowledge of company travel and expense guidelines.  Follows travel and expense guidelines and submits timely expense reports.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and be willing to travel up to 50% of the time in the assigned territory.
  • Candidates must be based in GTA, Ontario.

    Required Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor of Science degree, Engineering, or related technical degree is required.
    • Masters in a related discipline an asset. 
    • Experience preferred, in a hospital, or a similar role  (preferably cardiac catheterization clinical or other related healthcare company technical setting).
    • Experience in a hospital setting with Cardiovascular procedures an definite asset.
    • Cardiac Cath Lab or other hospital technical experience an asset.
    • Excellent presentation, leadership and coaching skills and ability to work in a complex environment.
    • Experience running and executing programs for Health Care Practitioners and other stakeholders.
    • Knowledge of FFR Physiology and OCT technologies a significant asset.
    • Take action to achieve goals (proactive/shows initiative). 
    • Excellent written and verbal skills.

      Required Skills and Abilities:

      • Willingness to travel extensively in Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and elsewhere as required.
      • The ability to handle a diverse and complex workload, largely in a clinical environment.
      • Works equally effective in a team environment and independently.
