The Clinic Physical Therapy Technician provides assistance to the physical therapist by preparing patients for therapy and cleaning and maintaining department equipment. The Clinic Physical Therapy Technician assists in the daily operational functions of the department and maintains a smooth flow of patient care.


Primary Job Responsibilities

Prepares, maintains, and cleans treatment areas and equipment:

  • Maintains a clean and organized working environment.
  • Process dirty linen.
  • Makes sure treatment areas are properly stocked with supplies.
  • Follows established procedures for care and cleaning of equipment.

Assists therapists with patient treatment:

  • Transports patients to physical therapy treatment areas.
  • Assists patients as necessary prior, during and at the conclusion of treatment.
  • Assists therapists with transfer training of difficult and/or heavy care patients.

Provides general support to the department:

  • Transports records, equipment, and supplies.
  • Performs assigned general office procedures.
  • Places daily physical therapy notes on patient charts.
  • Maintains and cleans support areas.
  • Supports front office as needed including answering phones, scheduling appointments and check in/check out of patients.


Education Background

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.

Licensure, Registration, Certification

  • None required

Special Training/Skills

  • Able to interact effectively with the public
  • Demonstrates knowledge of proper body mechanics and lifting techniques
  • Ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations
  • Must utilize one or more Epic applications to deliver and track patient care
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete Rehabilitation Aide Competency Evaluation and job training
  • Anatomy and physiology coursework preferred

Work Experience

  • Work experience in a physical therapy department or related health care field preferred.

Physical Abilities

Physical Demand Level:  Light

In an 8-hour workday, must be able to-

Lift / Carry 20 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds frequently


As required, must be able to-

Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Kneel, Crawl, Climb and Reach above shoulders

Push and Pull

Perform fine motor functions

Must possess functional vision, hearing, and speech in order to communicate effectively with clients, client advocates, and staff.
