Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Civil Engineer Intern - Transportation for employment in the Omaha, Nebraska office. AECOM is searching for candidates that have the ability to be a role model, be client-focused, be impactful and be decisive.

The appropriately qualified applicant should have a strong desire to establish a career in transportation engineering. Applicant will gain experience in freight rail design and tasks may include assistance with structural bridge design, civil grading, railroad track design, CAD drawing / design, or other transportation design tasks. This position is intended to assist both the bridge design group and civil/track design group during the summer of 2020 with possible part time employment continuation during the fall and spring college semesters.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.

  • Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.

  • Assist with organization of standards for several clients, performing research and providing for unique approaches to organizing and storing files within our Omaha transportation group.

  • Prepare engineering related calculations and help develop drawings.

  • Work under supervision of project managers and senior-level team members in our group.

This position doesn't offer relocation assistance

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently in pursuit of Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering or other related field with intent to return to school following the internship

  • Must have completed one year of study

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest/courses/internships in Transportation, rail or bridge design

  • Basic Microsoft office skills including Excel and Word

  • Effective communication skills and the demonstrated ability to work on both design and construction teams working on civil and transportation engineering projects

  • Self-motivated with a strong commitment to high quality work performance

  • Computer aided design experience, Autocad, Microstation, Revit, etc.
